I get the feeling that we are never going to see any actual battles, live action or CGI, in this show if a capture of an entire empire was is illustrated with just 1 guy getting killed in an alleyway with his bodyguards running away in the process.

These walking dead zombies that they have been teasing for a couple of years now, if we don't get to see them fight a giant battle then it is going to be the biggest disappointment since the cancellation of Firefly.

I don't know, i'm watching this for it's story lines and scenes of intrigue. I'm not expecting mass battles LOTR style, that's not HBO's style.
Also, Firefly is vastly overrated.

Storyline...I got slated calling this medieval Eastenders! Lol which is exactly what it is ...

I don't need big fights every ep but when they build up something, it needs a resolution, not a whimper.

You won't.

We've been through countless battles now with Robb Stark and never saw any of them. HBO have made it obvious they don't have the budget to do a lord of the rings style CGI sequence where we get to see a full on battle.

That explains why they look funny then...

Also that whole committee meeting for the baby with the ice stonehenge is completely fabricated just FYI.

You have to remember that Martin is working on the TV series,. This stuff isn't "fabricated" he's just adding more detail to some of the back story that he didn't go into with the books.

The reason for this is obvious, it gave the episode a dramatic ending. But this whole universe is of his creation. Its not somehow false because he fleshes out some more back story for the TV series.

For all we know, that scene could have been in a first draft of the book but got cut out. You know how much trouble he is making his books a reasonable size. Chances are they added it in because of how visually exciting the white walkers are in the TV series.

Enjoyed last nights episode. Sad to see both the murderers were revealed...thought they would hold off a bit longer. They were fairly obvious though I suppose. But why does Littlefinger need Sansa if he is marrying her Aunt? Is that so they are more of a family unit and people will rally around them? Or maybe more sinister - kill the Aunt sneakilly, then marry Sansa? [I don't want these questions answered by someone who has read the book....just guessing really]

Bran needs to sort himself out etc. Also - is Bran's mate (forget his name) having those fits because he is a Worg or is it just that he has a genuine condition? Good make-up either way. I thought he was going to die before he started foaming at the mouth!

Great ending, but obviously throws up more questions than it answers. If they can turn people into white walkers, why haven't they taken over the world already? What's their lifespan? Is DragonGlass the only way to kill them? [Again...don't want these answered by book people....just thinking aloud]

To be fair, IIRC in the book we dont get to experience any of Robbs battles either; heck even Jaime is captured 'off page' at one of them and that sets up a whole season of storyline for him.

Got to love bizzare tv standards. Announcers giving us warnings about strong language at the end of an ad break before a scene where there was rape going on all over the place (one of them being very in your face). I wasn't offended by either by the way. I just find it odd what they choose to give warnings over.

I didn't think it was fully answered though broadly hinted at - baelish was coy with direct answers though he was obviously in on it. The rest is pretty easy to put together though not 100% confirmed.

My thoughts behind it are that the dragons, white walkers, magic etc have all become active again. So white walkers haven't already killed everyone because they've been dormant for so long. Obviously these guys need it really cold so have only started moving south as winter is coming. The more wintery it gets the further south the others will come. In my opinion anyway.

That's that then. The show has overtaken the books.

Gonna have to stop now. This was the episode where it will go on a completely different path...I don't think there was a single scene that wasn't totally different.

Bet the heretics won't be happy!

It mentions it briefly in the episode about how as the cold weather moves south and the wall defences are discovered to not be as strong as they supposedly are the faster and further they will come south.

On another note with the ramping viewer numbers if it continues to climb it might get the budget to do some of the more epic scenes properly.

That makes sense! Cheers!

Doesn't most of Westeros (including Littlefinger) believe that Sansa is the only living heir to Winterfell. Even with the sacking of Winterfell, she is still quite valuable as there are many who are still aligned to the Starks. I assume he is hoping to manipulate her.

He was also very much in love with her Mother and he has stated in the past how much Sansa looks like Catelyn when she was young.

Are you having a laugh? He's one of the standout actors from the show. His 'Chaos' speech was a stellar piece of acting.

To be fair, maybe awful is harsh, but hammy certainly!

It's like they needed a new pantomime villain for people to boo whenever he appears on screen now that Joffrey is dead, so they are alternating between Ramsay and Karl now.

Confused by this, admittedly I haven't read the books for years and haven't read the 5th book, but I still remember the current story line from book 4. Are you sure they have overtaken the books?

Book readers don't know any of the stuff involving The Others yet, and certainly know nothing about The Night's King(who had a lot of theories surrounding him until last night!)

For individual scenes, hardly any of them happened(Bran at Crasters, Marge/Tommen, Marg QOT, Everything North of the wall, Locke, Jon going to Crasters etc) Thew Jaime/Brienne scene is probably closest, and best scene but even that plays out quite differently. I don't particularly care in one way, as there needs to be changes, but when you have people saying things get cut because they don't have time to show everything, it isn't really the case.

I keep seeing people mention there's no budget for such and such scenes. How is that even possible? especially when shows with a lower budget and much, much less popularity can do them?

On another note why is brans boyfriend sick? what happened to him I don't remember any mention of him getting pneumonia.

I've not really read much of the books so it's all entertaining to me although at this point as already been said there's more questions than answers and got a feeling we are gonna have a repeat of LOST on our hands were they totally lost the plot (writers strike ruined many shows during that year)

So they've added something that's not in the books, not necessarily overtaken them yet. I'm also now convinced I'm getting confused with another series as it's getting remarkably similar.
