I keep seeing people mention there's no budget for such and such scenes. How is that even possible? especially when shows with a lower budget and much, much less popularity can do them?

On another note why is brans boyfriend sick? what happened to him I don't remember any mention of him getting pneumonia.

I've not really read much of the books so it's all entertaining to me although at this point as already been said there's more questions than answers and got a feeling we are gonna have a repeat of LOST on our hands were they totally lost the plot (writers strike ruined many shows during that year)

I am not really asking for LOTR 30 min battle scenes with 10 millions soliders. Something akin to the end of The Fellowship where they were attacked by 30 or so orcs would do. They could use the same 30 guys again in an extension of the same scene even.

1 guy gettings stabbed out of an entire city slaughtered feels like I am being cheated.

Doubt that's going to be an issue as I think the story has been pretty much finished by George R R Martin, he just hasn't finished writing them yet.

I took that as him not being sick at all, and in fact some kind of trick to facilitate their escape.

martin has also briefed the producers how it all ends in the event he dies before he finishes writing the final books.

I can't recall exactly, as Bran's story isn't one I have paid the most attention to, but in the books Jojen is sick all through the journey, and gets worse the further north they get. Not sure it is ever specified what is wrong with him, but he does have fits. He was looking pretty bad earlier in the episode

Samwell told him when Jon managed to get back to castle black after running from the wildlings. Samwell of course ran into them coming up the well at the Night fort

I don't think they explicitly showed him telling him. I just put 2 and 2 together after seeming them talking together last week about where they were headed and where he met them.

That's that then. The show has overtaken the books.

Gonna have to stop now. This was the episode where it will go on a completely different path...I don't think there was a single scene that wasn't totally different.

Bet the heretics won't be happy!

You think the white walker conference is actually part of the story to come and not just made up by tv people then? If so then I think I'll have to stop watching too. The books are too good to have them spoiled by a tv show!

Whilst I personally, wouldn't call that part a spoiler, book-readers don't actually know much about the Others, and there is lots of speculation about them. Much of that speculation will have been disproved by last night's episode one way or another, so in that respect it has overtaken the books. The way they turn babies in to Wights has also always been pretty much conjecture up until this episode(btw what use would a baby be to The Others I wonder?)

The bigger one I was referring to was the appearance of The Night's King, who we have only heard stories of on the books and who is the focus of some pretty big theories. Seeing him appear last night would have spoiled a lot for book readers!

I was never sold on the theory, but I always liked the one that Stannis would become the Night's King, but if we are to take this episode as canon(I don't personally), then that theory has died

btw, I was grinning when Edd stood up when Jon was looking for volunteers!

I don't even remember reading about the night's king, I also didn't think there was anything to suggest that's what we saw in the episode.

Good article here for the book readers...like myself, who were a bit confused to the ending of the latest episode. Basically everything that is different has GRRM's say so.

There may be spoilers for non-book readers so avoid if you're just following the TV show.

Not trying to derail this into book chat, it's just that a lot of others like myself might have finished the latest episode wondering what we'd forgotten.

Personally I quite like the change.

Tbh, I think you are overestimating GRRM's influence...he sold the rights to the show, it is no longer his. They can do whatever they want.

There are certainly bits that change that he does ok, quite a few in fact(Locke is fine by me as a character, not sure about him turning up at The Wall...it can be fine though), but I don't think he is consulted on everything. Probably more like 'this is what happens to each character at the end', and then The show writers can get there however they want, with a brief consultation on anything they want to majorly change.

there are no "tv people" that are somehow stepping in and writing lots of stuff without Martin's say so.

One of the reasons the latest books have been so slow in coming is because he's spending so much time with the TV series.

If something like that is in the TV series, its because Martin either had already thought of it, but not been able / had time to put it in the books. Or the TV people went to him, told him what they wanted, and he gave them the story for the writers to flesh out.

I don't believe the relationship between them has deteriorated to the point the TV show are now making **** up as they go along without Martin's involvement or say so. He's still a co-executive producer on the series.

Which is pretty much what the above says. The writers went on a week long holiday and sat down and worked it all out together. They aren't just making **** up for the giggles without martin's involvement.

Found this nice little recap which is worth a read if you couldn't quite follow some of what was going on. If like me you wondered "whose the new bloke at castle black" and "where did that sword come from" have a read of the below

Its a good recap, and helps if you couldn't understand some of what was going on. If you don't want to understand those bits, then don't read. It doesn't cover anything that wasn't show in the TV show this week.
