Prometheus 2 - what we know so far

I'm I alone in thinking Alien3 Directors Cut was a lot better then Cinema release?

Was surprised how much was cut out of the original.

I remember leaving the cinema after seeing the first and was just in awe at how bad it was. I have never seen any more of the Alien films and even I spotted gaping plot holes in the story. The characters were all brain dead, some seemed to be there for no reason other than to make up numbers and there were so many glaring errors that it was laughable.
The problem was, with a bit more effort it could have been really good but it was like they made it whilst drunk!

Is there any news about a directors cut of Prometheus?

(+1 for the DC of Alien 3, its way, way underrated.)

Nope and Ridley said that there never will be.

Plus have you seen the deleted stuff on the DVD? It just makes the film worse.

Wouldn't say that, the scene with the back and forth with the engineer makes more sense as to why he goes boogaloo with humans comparing themselves to the engineers, in the movie he just goes ape for no reason.

Not really, it also helps explain why Milburn wasn't scared of the mutated snake creature, he'd already seen them in a smaller state. As it stands without that scene it comes across as really out of character he'd reach out towards the snake.

Another thing is the whole fight with the engineer and rapeface at the end is so abrupt because they cut so much of it.

Also, story aside, Prometheus is one of the best looking 3D movies around, some scenes in that movie are an absolute work of art.

I think we've heard that before:o how many versions of Alien/Bladerunner have we had over the years, who knows it may be part of the hype machine for chapter 2:cool::D

Not sure if you guys have talked about it but else where it has been discussed that the stupidity (possibly like mine for opening this can of worms:o:p) of the team was actually part of Vickers plan. She wanted the mission to be botched and succession in the company to be without doubt. Unfortunately for her she underestimated what they'd find:p:D

I've heard the theory and I kind of like it, however i'd say the poor characters are down to poor writing, simple as that.

The deleted scenes just highlight the ineptitude of the writing. I can see why they were removed, particularly because - idiocy aside - the pace of the film is still quite slick.

And I don't think anyone's ever argued about how good the set design, make up, costume, cinematography and direction are in the film. It's just the script and the editing that really makes it terrible.

It is a beautiful film, based on a wonderful world and lore, with the most awful scripting, backed up with the most extreme of explanations.

It should not take a second film to explain away the retardation of the first, this isn't clever, this isn't smart. This is terrible.

It amazes me that people actually consider Alien 4 to be better than 3. I personally thought 3 was fairly good, but 4 was an absolute piece of steaming manure that is an utter stain on the franchise.

As are the AVP films for that matter. The moment the predator passes the tail as a spear and a head as a shield onto that woman literally had me laughing my **** off, unbelievably appalling.

4 is terrible - but in a popcorn and suspend disbelief kind of way I found it much more enjoyable than 3.

While the director's cut improves 3 a bit its still a very boring and drab movie IMO and any pretence of being deeper or more of a thinkers movie than the others in the series is barely skin deep at best.

Personally I liked Aliens the best though - its a good escapism movie.

EDIT: Just saw the reply to my older post before lol.

No. Alien 3 freaking amazing. AMAZING.
Everything about it screams iconic, it has tonnes and tonnes of brooding atmosphere which I love and makes for great cinema, great dialogue, it's tough, gritty, real. I used to much prefer Aliens and Alien3 was initially a disappointment but now held in very high regard. Suggest you re-watch and re-educate yourself on your opinions.
Just because a sci-fi horror isn't set on a space ship in space doesn't mean it's not a sci-fi horror. Plenty of sci-fi films have poverty stricken low-tech prison planets. Refreshing to break away from tired cliches and if I understood correctly, the whole point was to recreate some of the initial spark and claustraphobia of the first film by having one beast to contend with, after the second film somewhat diminshed the prowess of the alien by having multiples of it.

I've more recently watched the directors cut and still stand by my original comment, sure there are many great things about the movie in their own individuality but none of it really pays off as a whole. (Probably doesn't help that I've seen the central premise of the movie done so many times in other movies before and since albeit with different window dressing so its not really original for me). End of the day I sat through it and it never once really absorbed me or had me in suspense or feeling afraid whereas I'm yet to make it through the thing :S

It was a nod to the original graphic novel which included that idea. I wish they'd stuck to the original story as the novel was very good!

As awful as Alien 4 was (and I agree), Prometheus was worse.

I believe it may be the single most disappointing film I have ever seen. Garbage. Mostly I'm talking about the script. The cinematography and other technical aspects were probably pretty good.

But a garbage script makes a garbage film in my book.

Pretty much totally this.

There are things we cannot undo, repair, fix or forget in Alien universe.

We cannot undo that the of two most brilliant movies in history of Sci Fi were followed by half baked Chronicle of Riddick'esque prison story and whatever-the-f-that-es-with-Winona-was-supposed-to-be.

We cannot repair the fact that before crew of Nostromo saw egg pods onboard Space Jockey's ship for the first time, xenomorphs were long battling Predators in pyramids under Antarctica's ice caps. Thanks very ****** much, AvP extended universe.

We cannot fix the fact Damon "let's spend 24 episodes on discovering that "special" Walt was not special at all" Lindel-ef-off was hired to butcher prequel to Alien into an outside-of-Alien-universe barely-Alien-adjacent mish-mash and could not be bothered to familiarise himself with the universe itself nor proofread his own rectal seepage of a screenplay.

But we should not forget that it is not too late to stop participating in destruction of the legacy and legend of the first two movies. After all, do you even care what happens to girl with a dragon tattoo on the planet of waxy men and their magically universal goo?

Brilliant :)
