Physx is it used much ?

Tbh its only in one game and is talked about nearly as much as Physx these days, take from that what you will.
Garbage? Lol yeah sure. The difference between on and off in tomb raider is unreal. It really makes a massive difference to how lara looks.
With now adding grass and fur it's going to be even better.

+1. I think you misunderstood me as that one game (Tomb Raider) is talked about a lot due to Tressfx and it being a good game. Shows what good technology Tressfx really is and the difference pc technology's can bring to the table. lets not forget it took until tressfx 2 to bring it to console and that was only next gen. That's my whole point tbh PC technology first and then console.

PhysX vs no PhysX is pretty much a night and day difference so the decision should basically depend on if the games you play use PhysX or if games you intend to play in the future will use PhysX. If so then buy Nvidia as AMD will gimp your gaming experience, if not then buy AMD as spending the extra on Nvidia is a waste.

Only a small number of games have proper (GPU) physX.

True but when it is done it really makes a difference (I.E Borderlands 2, Metro series).

The upcoming highly anticipated Star Citizen game is a PhysX title (As it's a PC exclusive not a made for consoles job) and hopefully a new era of high end PC games will be coming thanks to Kickstarter.

the should do what nokia does, share it but charge a royalty fee.

They tried, AMD said they weren't interested.

Most triple AAA titles don't use Physx and are the best looking games we have. So in effect all Physx titles do is dumb down effect's on amd hardware. The best looking game atm is most likely Crysis 3 and it does not use Physx. It uses crytek's own physic's engine. What we want from Physx is ground breaking stuff but this won't be done until it's available on both vendor's. Let's be honest we might see much better effects on mantle as it uses the CPU to better effect. In effect Nvidia may suffer more for there actions.

Wasn't knocking it matey, it's good when actually used properly (BL2, PS2) when it's used for fog etc i'm not really interested lol (Metro, Batman)

I never really turned it on though, as it ate up grunt :p

It's not used in as many games as I'd like it to be, makes a big difference to the visual fidelity in games like Metro:LL and BL2. Could do with it being a bit more optimised though in some cases as it is very demanding in certain titles.

All in all it's a great feature though, in my opinion, makes you appreciate how good the particle physics effects are with it on compared to other games which don't utilise it :)

Whilst technically true, it's only because rudimentary physics effects are removed and then made PhysX only to exaggerate the difference it makes.

There are plenty of games that have physics effects in them that nVidia would have you believe are hardware PhysX only.

As above, a lot of the effects in Borderlands 2 just doesn't need hardware PhysX to run, and some of them are really bad, like the water coming out of the pipe effects, it looks to be as thick as jelly, and moving like it too.

This is of course according to nVidia, who aren't known for their honesty.

Physx is simple.

If you have an Nvidia card it is fantastic and makes a huge difference.

If you have an AMD card it's pointless and does not add anything to the games.

Simples... :)

But I played Batman with PhysX on and Metro LL while I had to lower settings and FPS wasnt as high as say Nvidia it was a single player game and was very playable. :p

Id like to see a game like 'Good old crysis' from 2007, which still doesn't look bad at all now a days, properly use a graphics card to its 100% potential then it would have been amazing if it was properly coded, then for phys-x to make a phys-x card worth while, to take all the physics stress away from the cpu.
Then for amd and NVidia to allow full support of phys-x if its going to help them, but meh, ney its old tech, going no where.

Looks amazing on some old games that properly support it when them phys-x cards came out, but now a days, would just be sitting there gathering dust in the bottom pci slot, would rather stick a Dorito in there, would make a nice smell at the same time :)

I feel the same way.

Is PhysX good?

Well, that is down to the individual-end of story tbph.

They tried, AMD said they weren't interested.

There's always one on these types of threads.

Tom Peterson and Roy(then of Nvidia) disagree with you.;):p

Star Citizen is weird. If you have Nvidia, you are going to have PhysX true.

But if you have AMD you get True Audio, Mantle, TressFX and Eyefinity 2 etc on that game though.

As for Mantle, is out what 4 months now? 2 games support it already.
15 games are coming soon using the Frostbite 3 engine and going to support it also.
In addition we have Beyond Earth announced to do so, Star Citizen and couple others.

And is retrofitted to almost every big engine out there. CryEngine, Unreal Engine, Frostbite 3, and is included on Oxide's Engine.

I bet by end 2015 we are going to have as many Mantle titles, as we have with PhysX over the last 7 years.
Which are less than 30 according to Nvidia, minus one that has it officially off (Planetside 2).

There's a difference between GPU accelerated and not :p

Only difference was a Higher Frame rate you would get running Nvidia. The PhysX done on the CPU is the same thing you would get from your GPU.
Like I said performance wouldn't be 120fps but it was very playable in Batman and Metro LL.
