Kinectless Xbox One announcement today.

Part of me agree with the hardware thing and who'd in the right mind would get the slower one that costs more. Then I realise people as a whole, are clueless.

Hardware speed is only a fraction of the decision making process, if that was the be all and end all of it, the Wii would have bombed.

There are consoles out there that parents buy their kids. They simply see what their kids have in past and buy the new one. So if they had an X-box, they buy a new Xbox One. They don't know about the spec difference, they just know it is better, newer and faster than the old one.

There are consoles out there that are bought on a wimp. I almost bought one last week beacuse i saw it instock in Sainsbury's! Only sense stopped me because I have no games I want to play on it.

There are consoles that are bought because of exclusive titles. I bought a PS1 because it had FF7.

There are consoles bought because your friends have them so you want the same.

There are consoles bought because people actually want Kinect... shock horror, different people like different things.

There are consoles bought because some people just like one company more/or hate the other...fanboys.

p.s. not everyone has a 50" Plasma. Some of these consoles are played by teengagers in their bedroom on a 22" LCD TV whilst sitting in their bed. Some of these TVs are only 720p even.

That is a good point I would say most kids with tv's in their bedrooms have cheap and small 720P screens. But then fps would make a difference there I imagine in games like Tomb Raider.

Most consumers are clueless but the sales figures don't lie, it looks like people are getting more wiser with their choices and hopefully in the future the quality of products is analysed more and more before people make purchases.

It's also hard to see people switching sides, the older generation tend to like PS and the younger XBOX because that's what they grew up with as kids.

Everyone at my school had a PS when I was there, my brother at the same school all his mates had a 360.

Do you have numbers for that?.....last I heard XO was still a bit ahead in NA.

The only ones that need to worry right now out of all of them is Sony, like I said, they are in real financial diffs right now, they can sell all the PS4s they want right now, they aint clawing anywhere near close enough to manoeuvre on things like price and exclusives. Which doesnt bode well for what they can offer to the PS4 in the future.

We are talking about the consoles, not the companies as a whole that have many divisions etc. You keep trying to paint this as good news, but Sony aren't dropping their price or changing their offering. Seems most people don't care that Sony are in debt or not profitable as a whole, when buying the PS4 over the Xbox1. I don't think these things concern your average gamer (same way these gamers wont care that the kinectless machines would mean a 10% increase in performance). They will buy it due to the cheaper price.

Where did you read the Xbox is ahead is NA? I thought it was well known they were behind in the USA after some NPD figures a while back and also the total units shipped in NA was announced by MS and Sony (albeit before Titanfall was released)?

What games are people actually playing on their PS4's?

The PS4 can be as fast as they like, as without big exclusives it's useless.

I reiterate (as nobody seems to want to answer it).

Must be a shed loads of people out there just buying a PS4 because they're told it's faster and are missing out on all the quality exclusives the One has.

My PS4 pretty much sits on standby most of the time since completing Killzone. All the PSN games are pathetic indie titles (except Don't Starve! which is good).

This "there are no games thing" is a falacy. I would hazard a guess that the top 4 games played online on both consoles are the same, so why would you expect PS4 people not to be playing BF4, COD, FIFA etc ?

Not everyone bought both consoles, so people with only 1 console have plenty of choice (whichever one they picked). It's only people who bought both who have the luxury of comparing the exclusive titles and will, inevitably, play one more than the other.

I could list games available, but you will say they are rubbish, or not ones you like, which is fine. We could go on your theory that the millions of PS4 owners have bought paperweights and have nothing to play but are too stubborn to go out and get a XB1 and play games, but that doesn't sound plausible to me :D More likely, most are happily playing on their PS4 and not too concerned about the XB1

I've got a decent PC, an xbone, and I'm mostly playing Hearthstone on the iPad...

I'm not too fussed that this option is now available, it should have been from the start, but considering I bought a Day One and got the only game I really want from the new generation of consoles, Forza, for free, I don't think that's too bad going.

If you what you were talking about you might have a point.

If industry insiders on GAF are to be believed, the XBO has posted some pretty poor numbers in NA last month, its all about momentum and MS are struggling with that now that the launch hysteria has gone, there were even "Day One " editions still available on Amazon last month.

The number of exclusives is crap on both consoles at present, not overly surprising for "new" consoles as it happens every time. Only Nintendo go out their way to try and have a good number of exclusives within a launch window imo. 360 and PS3 were no different.

On the games front for XB1/PS4 there's little in it, I have both and to be honest there is no "killer" exclusive on either console at present.

What is this gap they keep going on about....its not THAT much so early on, given the way they are both being sold.

Sony havnt learnt anything from their problems, they are still bleeding money quite badly in most departments.

the gap aint that big tbh ( 2m approx in sonys favour and in 50+ more countries ) and remember the xbox one is also selling faster than the 360 did at launch as well

Thats because there were hardly any 360's around as it had manufacturing issues initially. If the 360 was around in large numbers it would have easily outsold the XBO, MS just had the market NAILED and had all the good news they just couldn't build the volumes they needed, and then RROD bit and stole a bit of thunder.

The XBO is built from off the shelf parts that are readily available, the only thing unprecedented was the sheer volumes of launch stock for both machines, I would have expected the both MS and Sony could have just boxed up their dirty underpants and sold them as a games console and still sell the first 5 million quickly, which has happened. Sony still have momentum in the market and MS's has fell off a cliff with the retail channel heavily overstocked, MS haven't been quoting sell through numbers, they quote sell in with approx 1 million consoles sat on retailer shelves.

It will make a difference in the long run of things, Sony overall are not in a position to be able to put major money into this right now, and next year is looking worse for them, if the rest of them struggles its hurts them as a whole as I assume and would imagine Sony really wanted to try and tie their Entertainment side of things into the PS4, but that's losing money as well, and lets also think who when the used the PS3 as a BluRay delivery method, well thats backfired as that's lost them money over all.

Im pretty sure the last figures more or less has them neck and neck in NA with the XO jsut about ahead, could have changed by now of course.

The PS4 is also selling faster than the PS3 did at launch so that's a bit of a waste of time fact.

The important thing to consider in sales is the trend, each month this year PS4 has sold (to consumer) approx 1m consoles. In contrast, Microsoft have shipped (to retailer) approx 400k so the gap is widening month on month. Shipped to retailer does not equal sale to consumer so the actual to market figure for Xbox One is probably somewhere between 300-350k making it into someone's house.

PS4 outsold the XB1 each month so far in the US, even in March with the launch of Titanfall. Source for March http://www.forbes.com/sites/davidth...oft-breaks-silence-on-xbox-one-sales-sort-of/ . Sure you're not getting confused with biggest software sales as that best selling game does jump around between the two month to month.

It's the only advantage the PS4 really has at the moment, therefore it's the only thing the usual suspects can keep regurgitating over and over again.

Anyone would think the Xbox One was displaying games in SD resolutions with the completely over-the-top amount of fuss people make about it.

Only advantage apart from sales!

Also, for a games console I would say superior image quality was a pretty important advantage to have!

Yea...Killzone really was a great game that made up for bland gameplay with amazing visuals.

/s...just in case.

Shall we ignore the additional FPS and graphical effects in a lot of multi plats then?

Will make no difference to PS4 this gen. Sony were in trouble last gen (towards the end). Had no impact on PS3 for gamers. Quality games were still developed and released and sold.

Conversation that did not occur:

Activision/EA: shall we release our annual titles on PS4
Answer: Nah, Sony are in trouble and the PS4 is doomed.

Clutching at straws....tbh When they start closing studios, or selling them then claim their financial troubles are affecting the PS4 sales/quality.
