LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

I'll run a few more games with vsync tonight and report back :) I don't use vsync in any fps though, only on games where I use a gamepad. Still, as an effort to confirm what refresh rate it locks I'll check it out. Weird about Grid 2 yeah, Windows is at 60Hz but load Grid 2 with Vsync on and it locks to 50Hz. Alt-tabbing to Windows you can see the screen switch back to 60Hz.

That's incorrect. This panel uses 8-bit + FRC regardless of the signal. And 50Hz, 60Hz or any other refresh rate has no effect on the backlight and does not induce flickering.

Aye I imagined this might well be the case and the 1.2 mode simply being used for other stuff!

Apart from a few of the gripes I have already mentioned, I can't see myself not wanting this monitor - DP 1.2 mode withstanding :p If that mode is of benefit for the future then I certainly want that fixed from the flicker.

Edit*
The grain in picture 3 is indeed an optical illusion (some moire too) - One of the drawbacks of a digital camera being used to photograph a digital screen under certain conditions!

My brain is foggy today but if it is not running in 1.2 then it is running 1.1 for you right? Would there be sufficent bandwidth to game at 3440x1440 60hz on dp 1.1? Surely it must come close i would have thought DP 1.2 would have been mandatory to enable.

1.0 to 1.1

DisplayPort 1.0 allows a maximum of 8.64 Gbit/s data rate over a 2-meter cable.[10] DisplayPort 1.1 also allows devices to implement alternative link layers such as fiber optic, allowing a much longer reach between source and display without signal degradation,[11] although alternative implementations are not standardized. It also includes HDCP in addition to DisplayPort Content Protection (DPCP).
1.2

DisplayPort version 1.2 was approved on December 22, 2009. The most significant improvement of the new version is the doubling of the effective bandwidth to 17.28 Gbit/s in High Bit Rate 2 (HBR2) mode, which allows increased resolutions, higher refresh rates, and greater color depth. Other improvements include multiple independent video streams (daisy-chain connection with multiple monitors) called Multi-Stream Transport, facilities for stereoscopic 3D, increased AUX channel bandwidth (from 1 Mbit/s to 720 Mbit/s), more color spaces including xvYCC, scRGB and Adobe RGB 1998, and Global Time Code (GTC) for sub 1 µs audio/video synchronisation. Also Apple Inc.'s Mini DisplayPort connector, which is much smaller and designed for laptop computers

I wonder if this thread might help with the problems you're having? Then again, it may simply be a case of needing that update.

Interesting, the only thing there I can find that might have some relevancy to the flicker may be the gfx driver as I am using the latest nVidia beta though JP has the same flicker and he’s using an ATI card. I think it certainly is a firmware update requirement though given how many people have experienced it!

Edit*
^^ Doubly interesting info.

mrk, just noticed your lighting strip you have on the back of yours. Which one do you use, and how far can you extend the monitor before it becomes ineffective? Noticed that you have dark wallpaper so I suppose that would diminish the effect somewhat.

Ah I cannot remember the make or model off the top of my head but can check it after work. It's a Cree LED strip and powered by USB. Pretty bright really, enough to give room glowing ambience and take away any eye strain that might occur. I have the reactive Lightpack kit coming still so will have a play with that when it's all set up.

Looks amazing. Almost certainly going to order now. Just one question though, can someone please tell me how long the monitor is? If its maasively longer than my current dell 27" my wife will no doubt take offence to it!

Cheers

width: 82.99 cm

I have the Dell 2913UW so this will be abit longer and hanging off my desk, think i'll wait for Dells 34 and see how prices look then.

Is this actually in stock yet? Cash is a little tight - not so tight that I won't be buying mind you :) but I don't want to order until I know it will be dispatched (if that makes sense)

Top review as well Robbie, it certainly removed any doubts I had!

Apparently not yet, but it could come later today. I just asked a little while ago.

I think this will be my next monitor. I was going to go for the ROG but this appeals to me way more now
