LG to Introduce 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor

All I found struggled badly in many places on a single 3GB GTX 780 Ti. At least they supported 21:9 though that more than anything was the biggest issue along with poor Win 7 ClearType tuner issues.

AWPC, did you happen to change the scaling in control panel >> display at all? I've been playing around with a dell venue 11 pro (win8.1) and it ships with the scaling at 150% as standard. In some apps, the font smoothing is dreadful. Chrome vs IE is the best example; perfect in IE but chromes is smeared with vasaline. Changing the scaling back to 100% solved it completely but on a tablet it just made everything ridiculously small lol.

This is a problem with Chrome (and most other software). It's a re-run of the Vista driver situation where software vendors haven't updated the way their interfaces scale in Windows 8. Unfortunately there's no way to fix it, best to just leave it on 150% scaling.

Yeah tried that, DPI, fonts, GPU scaling @ custom res, monitor scaling in the end I had to DSR the monitor & gave up.

Those issues gave me severe headaches on many websites as pdf's & or certain website designs garbled the fonts it was very uncomfortable to look at for long due to the lack of clarity in the image. Could not find a way to get around it as it seemed to me like the Win 7 Clear Type tuner has a few dead zone gaps which meant it could not scale certain fonts properly.

The handful of games which have native 21:9 support looked stunning however. Such a shame I had to DSR as the image aside from the fonts was very good. Colours/contrast especially.

Still think 21:9 are stunning displays but the scaling issues are there on the Asus 21:9 not everyone notices them on Win 7 as most websites are ok. Perhaps on Win 8.1 they are fixed?

hmm, don't know then :(. I cant see it being a windows issue, i just dont have that problem at all on my 21:9 LGs, they are sharp across the board. This is on windows 7.

AWPC, I think it's because you were using the Splendid Mode ; Game Mode. Which is pretty crap from when I tested it earlier due to our correspondence.

Using the Game Mode Preset for Splendid, font was crappy, it was just the colours etc.

I'm using theatre and it's far far far better.

Will be getting me one of these i think a few weeks after i finish updating my build ( going well, just added a couple of 480 Rads to my order from ocuk and my cpu waterblock.

Looking forward to that, and to think of it a new screen will be very refreshing.

I think linus sold me on this when he said. Its not like sitting down at a monitor, its like sitting down at a battle station.

I played a few more games I have immediate access to, Crysis Warhead and Matro 2033. Warhead on Enthusiast mode with and without Vsync appeared to switch refresh rate but I don't know what to, it felt like 60 still but could have been 50. Fraps doesn't work in this game it seems so doesn't display the fps. It still ran smooth though and was very playable. Considering the last time I played it my system had to run it in Gamer mode with other settings lowered a bit and that was at 1920x1200!

Metro ran fine with everything maxed as well but I could not change any advanced settings to get to vsync with this and it appeared to be locked to 30fps because of that.

A good way to tell that the refresh rate is switching is if you observe the power LED,m it will blink and the monitor will soft power cycle as it switches to another refresh rate.

So far Valve games seem to stick to 60Hz with vsync on and with other games you take your chances :p

Both games worked perfectly at 21:9 though. Think I should give HL2 cinematic mod a re-run!

I am curiously watching the hardforum thread as well about A01 and A02 revisions and the dp 1.2 lines. Mrk how come no one else is saying about Crysis and Metro running at funny hz? It is a pretty serious issue for loads as i personally cannot game without vsync or 60fps all the time.

Even 50hz would be unacceptable because i am sensitive to blur and input lag. I guess this is the reason now too why this display will not overclock past 60hz!

Not many large IPS screens will overclock really though will they. Well ones geared at the workstation end anyway.

I've found something with 1.2 after reading a post on hardforum and will confirm either working or not in the morning. So far enabling 1.2 mode has not resulted in any flicker now.

As for the games, I guess it's down to individual system configurations and how hardware will react differently between people.

Yea i saw the post on it warming up. What you can do is use something other than fraps, And as you say if hz changes monitor will blink but there is clearly something going on as none of the 4k displays weve heard of blink or magically swap to 50hz. I have been looking google to try to find out why and curiously the spec sheet says a few things that interest me.

Frequency is listed at max 91 and 61 vertical and ive saw on the spec sheets for last years overclockable monitors that vertical was 75 which people overclocked too as well. I wonder does this mark out the max frequency without skipping? And also this might be important on the flickering on the spec sheet Displayport and HDMI and hz are as follows HDMI 50hz and displayport in steps of 30/50/60. Do these steps mark out the maximum with 1.0 1.1 and 1.2? Would you see if those same games still are locked at 50 with 1.2 enabled in the osd perhaps?

And further there is a page about the driver on hardforum page 36 i think it is the 95 version they are talking about.

Awesome looking screen - definitely on my wishlist. Given the immersiveness, I'd love to see a fully modded skyrim on that screen, bet that would look amazing. (I'm assuming flawless widescreen works with skyrim on that resolution).

Based on videos I have seen, it should!

I too want to play Oblivion/Skyrim fully modded on this thing! I'm just giving it a couple of months to see whether:

a) The issues presented in this thread will be fixed with a firmware update (plus perhaps the inclusion of ATIs vsync if the DP port is 1.2a)
b) DELL come up with a contender that has all the features of the LG including internal LUT.

I haven't had any issues with the display not maintaining 60 Hz. DP 1.2 is disabled here.

For some reason SLI doesn't work when the original Crysis is in fullscreen (windowed works), but I had this issue with my old 2560x1600 monitor also.

Name one time Lg let people do this DIY without RMA? Hell look at the 29EA93-P variant with no one even knowing where the magical 1.25 firmware came from or no one at LG to confirm apart from one glowing Aandtech review that claimed input lag got more than halved in one revision down to 5ms. That was a bit of a fiasco for people and LG have discontinued that model now too so god knows if they overclock anymore.

And if you read the new freesync FAQ it states they are readying with manufactuers to get adaptive sync compatible monitors out in six to twelve months from a week or two ago when it got finalzed so this is never going to happen. What would happen is Dell come out in 6 months time with thier version with fixed bugs and freesync and everyone else gets screwed. Im tempted to order the AOC 29" and calibrate the sucker and run overdrive high 75hz for another year now. I really get angry at LG for being such dimwits they ruined this for me too with zero overclocking potential. Such a shame its a glorious beast.
