Thanks for the diablofans link, again some really good builds on there.

The question is though, once you've settled on a build, how do you know what type of gear stats you need to get? Or isn't it usually gear specific?

General rule of thumb and this is pretty much the same for all classes.

If one build focuses on 1 particluar element on its skills, then you gear for that element in particular.

Say for instance my Crusader, currently Fire is the hot build (pun intended) so you pick a primary with a fire rune, a spender with a fire rune and then a couple of activated with fire runes.

Then you look at gear, Cindercoat for chest offers +firedmg%
Magefist gloves +firedmg%
Andariels Helm +firedmg%
Maximus 2h +firedmg%

Additionally Andariels can roll as other elements, also i can get +elementaldmg% on Stone of Jordan Ring (probably the best ring for all classes too) and also most necklaces.

Have a look at http://www.d3head.com/ and have a look through the various items, you will see plenty with elemental dmg increases, Thundergods belt, Frostburn gloves, Azurewrath etc etc.

you need to balance this with Crit Chance though, and also Crit Hit damage, and depending on class, Resource reduction, cooldown reduction etc, Also Resist all if your lacking toughness, although wizards aim for high Intel and this has a side effect of also giving +resist All too.

The only stat you need to worry about is elemental damage % for the skills you're using, all the other stuff like crit hit damage, crit chance, attack speed is always best to have as much as possible.

Only exception to this is Attack speed, if your a 2h Crusader or a dot based witch doctor, then Attack speed isnt really overly desirable.

Or a fetish based WD, where its the primary stat :P

Rocking 90.14% pet attack speed increase on my WD (40.14% on my character itself, with 50% on my tasker and theo gloves :D)

Crikey that's a lot of attack speed.

I keep meaning to finish gearing my WD. I got my Mask of Jeram and Ring of Royal Grandeur then gave up and went back to my Wizard.

Thank you!

Crafting is something else I need to understand as well. I've just bought the highest crafting level at the blacksmith and learned all of the recipes I had saved in my banks.

It's difficult to figure out what's worth making though. :p

Some of the crafted gear is awesome, and right now plans are dropping like flies. I had 4 plans (2 legendary, 2 set) last night in a single rift on T1.

Assuming you have the Ring of Royal Grandeur, Aughild's shoulders and helm are the best pieces you can have really (15% extra damage to, and reduced taken from elites). Then depending on your class/build, some other combos work well.

For example, Cain's boots and gloves for 8% attack speed, some extra magic find and experience, or if attack speed doesn't mean a lot to you, or you need a toughness boost, Asheara's boots and gloves will provide 100 all resist and 20% life.

Having 2 pieces of Blackthorns (pants and chest, normally) is really good too and will provide an additional 10% damage and damage reduction against elites, 250 vitality and 25% gold find.

It's just a matter of mixing and matching to suit your needs.

I don't have any of those items.

Join the club! :p

Assuming I hit L70 tonight, what sort of difficulty level should I be able to manage while playing solo?

Reason I ask is that I'm enjoying doing bounties and rifts at the moment but I'm struggling to complete them on Expert, let alone at a higher level!?!?

I'm assuming that my only "upgrades" now are Paragon levels and gear - and the gear I've collected recently has given me little or no improvement on what I currently have!

Would I be better going co-op on a higher difficulty in an attempt to get better drops or just keep grinding on Expert??

Once you hit 70 start doing rifts on whatever difficulty you can handle the best, you will get blood shards from the final boss, use these to gamble items.

Bounties will give you a chance at legendaries in the Horadric Cache aswell as the clearing, also rift frags to open rifts.

Few hours at 70 and you should be geared enough to tackle T1 i reckon, join a Rift it forward community also but make sure you have a wad of rift frags to open up rifts for people.

I've "spent" a few shards with the alternative merchant but sa far have only crafted a couple of blue and one yellow 1H weapon, all of which were a LOT worse than my existing weapon!?!?!

Am I best waiting until I'm L70 before trying some more or is it literally random???

Its random, however i wouldnt waste any mats or anything pre 70 as even level 70 yellows will be better than most legendaries you get prior to that.

Once 70 farm aload of bounties on normal mode as its probably going to be the fastest for you, build up a healthy stack of rift frags, say 50 to 100, then start looking for groups to join in Rift it Forward, you can also run rifts on the highest level you can manage, they have an increased drop chance of legendaries inside them.

also the boss will drop Shards for trading, and basically thats it then, you just rinse repeat and gear up, as you get gear you can tackle harder levels etc.

Tom are you in the Overclockers social? if not add me Xylonite#2178 tonight im going to run a few act1 bounties on t3 and then do some rifts, dont be scared by the difficulty, if you hang back and keep moving etc you should be fine ;) i will smack everything you just need to pickup the loot hehe. your more than welcome to join me.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but what is "Rift it Forward"??

Its a community chat channel, basically the idea is people clear a rift and advertise empty spots for the boss kill as he drops the shards and items and gold etc (other mobs drop things just not shards) and also you get a big chunk of exp for handin in the quest once he dies.

The idea is you take a spot and then in return you open up the next rift for the person that invited you.

Some people advertise like "t3 @Boss you reopen" or "t3 @Boss lowest Paragon opens"

1st instance - you join, kill boss open next rift
2nd instance - you join, whoever has the lowest paragon level opens the next rift etc

Yeah rift it forward is great, had one night where I only spent about 15 keystones, you can basically keep getting them for free if you wait for the right ones.
