Godzilla - Trailer

Ok folks, how would this hold up for a 6year old? Taking my son to the cinema this weekend and he has given 3 films he wants to see: Godzilla, Cap America 2 and X-Men. Just wondering which would he would enjoy more out those, anyone able to offer an opinion based on experience? (obiously no experience of Xmen yet :P)

They are all 12a I'd not be happy taking my kids to ANY of them and they are older than yours. Take him to the Muppets or Lego movie both great films and much much more appropriate for his age.

He seen them both already and a 12a rating is nonsence anyway.

Its a guidance rating, these films are action style films they contain death, violence, gore and threat, they are not in my opinion appropriate for a 6 year old, 10-11 year old maybe, if they are ok with that sort of thing but not 6.

we'll have to disagree then :) Saw Amazing Spiderman 2 last month and there wasn't anything unsuitable for a child in that despite being a 12a too.

I enjoyed Aliens when I was 6 - it scared me a little sure but I loved anything with creatures and aliens or dinosaurs in (I still do).

In fact, I enjoyed Aliens films more when I was 6 than I do now. lol.
To me as a child, the deciding factor whether it was suitable wasn't the blood or death, it was the context. My parents didn't let me watch real life scenarios with extreme violence like war films, gang films etc. But giant monsters or aliens was quite clearly make believe so they seen that as fine as It was what I really loved. I never liked childish stuff like morning kids tv. Monster moves and super hero cartoons!

I'm going to see this tonight...finally.
Hopefully it's good.

I enjoyed Pacific Rim a lot, and I'm expecting this to be along those lines. Sub par acting, but plenty awesome scenes of monsters and destruction - with the acting and plot being decent enough to move the film along to those cool parts.

Found it terrible really full of cliches and emotional filler americans seem in love with.I cringed watching when those parents found their kid and the cheesey "emotional closure" music kicked in.Dreadfully predicatble boring movie, take out the special effects and it has nothing.

What next, take him to a strip club by the age of 12? :p

Fight scenes reminded me of the Power Rangers on steroids. Cool, they wanted it to feel like how the originals were and I guess they succeeded there, but it just didn't work for me.

Visually, it didn't impress me, can't think of a single scene that jumped out.

The acting was awful. The plot had more holes than a block of cheese.

Cranston had far little scene time and I didn't expect him to die?

Godzilla stayed true to the classics, he really did look like a guy in a suit.

Not enough of Godzilla on screen at all, it got to the point were I said to myself 'seriously, show Godzilla! And stop switching back to the human story!'

It did drag on because of the above comment.

O look, another monster movie that's mostly shot at night and in the rain.

Cloverfield felt more epic and scary than this (as a monster flick), plus the acting was ten times better.

I honestly preferred the '98 version over this (can't believe I'm even saying that, as the acting and plot was just as bad), even though that film was nothing like the old originals. At least with that film it felt epic and the visuals, at the time, were soo much more 'blockbusterish' IMO, compared to this now.

Lastly, was anyone else expecting Godzilla to pull out a pack of Chewits?

5/10

I quite enjoyed the movie last night.

I liked how it built up slowly and I liked how at first, you only seen parts of the monster fights from the human perspective.

Thee human parts were not particularly great, but they were good enough to get you to the next monster section.

The best thing though was the sound effects. Not what I typically go to see a film for but they were amazing here.

It wasn't as good as Pacific Rim, and I personally enjoyed Cloverfield a bit more but it was still 7/10 for me - jumping up a bit because of the last 30 minutes or so.

Some stand out scenes, other than the end fight was the train escort in the mist and the HALO jump. Visually, both looked stunning. The destroyed city views looked great too

Terrible film, it was more about people than Godzilla and the only good view of him was at the very end.

Watching it on Saturday with the gf. I had been excited for the film but not so much now given the post release public opinions. I've seen almost all the older films as well as the '98 version which I did like a lot so I doubt I'll have issues with this :)

I'm really surprised that people are moaning about the fact that you don't see Big G until ther final fight. That is true to just about every monster movie and exactly what I expected. Films were you do see the creature straight away tend to blow their main 'money shot' straight away and don't hold the audience as much.

There were plot holes (e.g. a "parasite" that is a big as its (presumed) host, the female's unobserved escape etc) but mostly my wife and I really enjoyed it. 7/10 for me...but then I've always been a fan of monster movies. :)

I really, really didn't understand why the MOTAs had the ability to fire/release EMP. Seriously, what is the point in having EMP against Godzilla? The film suggested that the MUTOs had been around (and presumably fighting Godzilla) for a long, long time before humans were around to ever harness electricity and create machines that are affected by it.

6/10

... on account of the HALO drop.

Take out Godzilla and the monsters and the Godzilla film has nothing?

Stop the presses!

I'm assuming that in the 15? years between them finding those parasites and now they've grown.

The best thing about this film was at least it was truer to the old Godzilla stuff and monster vs monster while humans are stuck in the middle is never bad. Everything else about it was worse than the other Godzilla film - Pacific Rim just makes both Godzillas redundant though...

Enjoyable films with the right mindset I guess - really would like a proper B movie take on Godzilla though...

ps3ud0
