BMW and M Power Owners

With the Sport bumpers and those alloys it will look pretty good too, i dont see much point in buying the MSport model either :)

Replaced the LCD screen on my BMW Professional head unit yesterday (130i M Sport). Getting the unit out of the car, a doddle... Getting the screen off the pcb was a nightmare...

They solder 4 hooks in place for the metal housing that holds the screen in.

Either way, no more dead pixels, my display would be 100% dead after 20 mins driving, really annoyed me. Bought the car a couple of weeks ago. I got the display from here:

Finally glad to see what radio station I'm on.

Next, I will be putting new disks and pads (yellow pads) on. Then finally, tackling the standard air box and hopefully fabricate something up to get a twin cone setup in there.

What year is you car? I thought it was brand new for some reason.

I have always wanted an F10, nothing else interested me really so it was the obvious choice.

The E39 always seems to have something wrong with it lately which is fine for a toy you have to fiddle with but annoying on a car you want to just work.

Loving the automatic too, another big factor.
Niggles..

I think I was relatively lucky that the Z3 didn't have many problems over the 4 years.
It didn't have much in the way of toys and there will be a lot more to break on a well-specced E39. What sort of issues have you been having recently?

Over the last 6 months PAS pump, rocker cover gasket *again*, brake lines, brake caliper and failure of the light control module I think as the full beam has a mind of its own. Nothing terminal, but annoying. Or it was annoying when I needed the car to just work, now I don't, they have become challenges :p

Its very well specced & AUC - I was waiting on a video walkaround as its in preparation. Id go and have a look and with possible px in mind so cost to change wouldnt be what they want!

Didnt realise it was circa £500 tax!! Ill forget that car then. I can afford but im not paying that to the government each year!!

Finding a well specced 335i coupe with nav, parking, xenons (blue preferably) is a damn pain!

For me Pro-Nav was a must as was bluetooth and USB.

May be worth looking at SE specs also, as they all have M-sport suspension as standard, otherwise there are just cosmetic differences.

You should find the ones post march 2006 and before 2008 (ED models) are cheaper, maybe even cheap enough the warrant the higher tax bracket.

Just did a 240 mile run and, despite some pretty bad traffic throughout and a fair bit of stop-start I returned 56.3mpg door to door, including 4-5 miles of country lanes at the start.

I am really quite impressed by that - I knew it was economical but not that good!

I know it's not a 'trendy' car on this topic, but I've now done about 16 months in my X3, did about 22k miles, and I'm still very happy with the car.

The 2L engine is very nice and punchy. In fact, it can be very, very quick with a bit of practice. One downside is the manual gearbox (well, mostly the clutch) -- the gears are nicely staged, but the clutch is not fantastic to be honest; it's very hard (even after 22k!!) to make a 'smooth' start from a stop, it tends to 'stutter' unless I rev up quite a bit beforehand, which is rather silly.

On the road it's great -- I mean, not 'sports car' great, but I can still leave quite a few people behind on smaller roads, it's really very well balanced, it might have a little hint of oversteer sometime, but overall it's near perfect.

I do a lot of smaller roads (A, B) and motorway, and if I drive "tranquil" I do reach the specified 50mpg, but it's hard. If I'm a bit more ham-footed, I do 42-46 or so, and If I'm "commuting, late" I do 40mpg. Overall, not bad for a 2 ton truck!

As far as the 'options' goes, i didn't take the pro-nav, and I don't regret it. My El-cheapo Nexus 5 is FAR better than anything onboard these days. However I took (most) of the gadgets, and they are fantastic. The auto-beam is absolutely /amazing/ as I do a lot of small roads at night; I also have the top view camera which is now completely assimilated and allows me to park without even looking outside the car. Pretty cool tech!

For wheels, I took the 17"'s, as I tought I would keep these for winter wheels and get a set of 18 or 19 for summer. However, I did quite a bit more 'off road' than I originally planned, and I think that was helped by not having 'fancy' wheels to damage. I had a total of 3 (slow) punctures with my run-flats, and I managed to re-inflate (with the small teasco-grade compressor in the boot) and get them fixed without too much problem. I've now grown rather fond of the 17"'s so I'll keep them.

Overall, I would "buy again" -- I migth even be tempted by the 3L version, as apparently it's a bit of a stonker... But even the 2L is nice so... People complain about the noise of the 2L, but seriously, at 3k/rpm, I find it sounds pretty awesome! Nice and throaty :-)

I have the Pro Nav and a HTC One, which is as good as your Nexus 5. I cannot really see how it can work with the car as well as the Pro Nav, an option I find so awesome I simply ignored any car not fitted with it. It's so much more than just satnav. My HTC One is just a totally different type of device and I can't see how it could do the job of the Pro Media pack anything like as well?

Jealous of your top view camera though :D

On an unrelated note, to those of you with the integrated bluetooth...

.... how do I get it to use my contacts list properly? My contacts list in the car appears to contain every single person I've ever emailed in addition to my actual telephone contacts. The contacts list in my phone contains purely my telephone contacts. Presumably I've messed something up somewhere but the list the car views is so huge it's totally unusable. What am I doing wrong?

This is the main reason why I just sold my F21. Is it a common trend with modern BMWs?

I don't know really; I love how the 'google' privacy-challenged features can work for a normal user. I usually plonk my phone in the cup holder, vertical, and rarely watch it -- the google-voice is rather amazingly good; also, say if you looked up an address on your desk-computer before leaving, THAT address magically appears as default destination if you launch Nav in the car...

... and then there is the live traffic top-down view that IMO makes it totally indispensable for anyone in the south of the country. The number of time it has saved me /hours/ of queuing by showing me that 'new' accident on the M25 after I already left to/from work...

Yeah the top view camera is the best gadget, ever; even my geek friends salivate when they see it working :-) -- the 2015 X3 has added a camera at the front too, so you get full surround view!

If I look at an address on Google Maps on my PC or Google Maps on my phone I can click a button to send it to my car, I can then select it as a destination on the integrated Nav?

You mean just like BMW RTTI, which you'd have got free with Pro Nav? :p

Not to mention the bigger, higher resolution display which makes media nicer to use, the cars functions more pleasant to use, etc etc.

The 5 Series has always had surround view, annoying not many people selected it :( I had it fitted to an M5 I hired once, it was amazing.

Did you choose that colour?

Yes. I'm allergic to white, black, and random gray of the Boring Brigade. I'm shaking my head in despair every time I see a nice car in these colors, pretty much as I imagine you do when looking at mine :-)

That bronze looks lovely -- especially in the sun, I'm still very happy to have picked it, that and the red-brown leather the combo feels very warm and luxurious to me :-)

All i can say is good luck with the residuals with no navigation and brown paint :p As "individual" as it is, unless you keep that car until its scrap they might prove to be expensive choices.

That looks amazing in that pic I must say, only thing I don't like about the car are the wheels but that's just me!

I've seen a few 6 Series' in brown but the finish looks matte. Is this a BMW colour or aftermarket? Looks nice, quite elegant but not something I'd spec myself.

On an unrelated note, I've been umming and arring way too long between the E46 330 and CLK320 (both petrol and facelift).

I've decided I'm going to try and tick both off over the next 2 years; starting with the E46. I'd love a dark blue with cream leather combination but I'm going to prioritise the mechanical condition and preventative maintenance carried out on the car over aesthics.
