Not quite sure why everyones having kittens about the G3258 in comparison to i5 K rigs... It could never hope to compete, except on price... It won't be long before the i5 2500K (used) is in the same ballpark price-wise with much much higher performance. But maybe I'm missing something 
Sums it up nicely... My i7 2700K (cost me £140) will do 4.8GHz day-to-day and 5.2 O/C. Cost : performance of the older generations will always be better than the newer ones at set price points.
Assuming my 3570K @ 4.4GHz shouldn't worry other than for benchmarking purposes?

Did it actually get implemented though? The last comment on that post said that Asus hasn't recieved notification to do it and that the bios will still be available in the downloads library anyway. I would like to see some up to date results on this as that article is nearly a year old. Why would the wifes motherboard have loads of overclocking options in the latest bios if the board can't overclock any cpu's? Tempted to try my 4670k in it.

LOL Well if I am wrong in 3 weeks then I am wrong. Even though all distis in the UK are stating extremely restricted stock for quite a while.

Has it been determined if tthese work on the Z87 motherboards?
If not, unless you have a Z97 board, then you'd need to change that too, unless you haven't ordered one yet.
If you don't have a motherboard yet then I'd get one of these as my 4770K runs hot, so that alone would persuade me to get one of these.

Now I am not knocking its potential but how can it be a keen favourite when its not yet launched onto the general public ?
The Intel® Pentium® II Processor 300 MHz was a keen favourite amonst overclockers as it could overclock at 450mhz easily but it was not a favourite until it was bought in droves after realising this.
I think you need to reign in a bit the creative talents of whoever writes the marketing blurb.

To be fair though, the Pentium E5000 range was very popular...I myself have owned two of them.This swung it for me

They pretty much offered 80-90% of the Core2Duo E8000 range's performance at <50% of their price
I`m not knocking the range at all just saying its like stating "bringing you the best selling Pentium CPU" when zero have been sold.
Its not a favourite till its sold in droves.
Like your example the Pentium E5000 could be said its a keen favourite because its got a sales history. This new CPU ain't so it cant be a favourite yet....

After rereading his post, it does seem his wording is referring to this particular Pentium rather than the Pentium range in the pass, so I guess you are right.
I think the author was probably thinking one thing, and wrote another
It's unclear at this time how much stock will be available for the first batch so as usual we will work on a first come first served basis.
Well back when OCUK were selling 4+GHz i3 bundles the boards were the most expensive thing in the pack.
True, however as the vast majority of games are lightly threaded it will defiantly appeal to many buyers, I.E for a WoW junkie this when overclocked would beat every single CPU AMD have right up to and including the FX9590 which is 4x the price.
Please don't expect miracles, no doubt these were suicide runs on cherry picked chips cooled with chilled water.
Absolutely! I've only got about 3 weeks worth of cherry picked 4770K left so I have no choice
You are wrong already, because this sort of "paper launch" is extremely unlike Intel's consumer arm. Therefore your original statement was, as has already been pointed out, totally flawed. Typically we would have both CPU and motherboard stock in our warehouse weeks before launch and we are sat here itching to press the live button.

Looking at sites they are doing extreme and air cooling competitions at Computex and at the moment all of the top ten in the air cooling tourney are above 5GHz, how many cherry picked CPUs can Intel have on hand?
So you have them stocked and ready to go? What kinda quantity?

So much for similar pricing on the 4790k against the 4770k model, which was much more consistent for the 4790 against the 4770, looks like we are playing the supply and demand game with ~£30 premium at least for the time being.
Think I will go and overclock an ZX81 with a 16KB expansion pack out of spite.

And, as I said my basis was founded on the constant launch issues of server/xeon products. And while I understand this is a different sector from consumer it looks like it could spread to this division as well unless Intel get a shake on with supply.
So are you telling me that you have got Z97 and Devils Canyon boards/cpus in stock ready to go? If that is the case then Intel have been lying to their platinum partners in the UK and so has distribution! Which, while I understand, other manufacturers may not be shifting such high quantity as OCUK and other big e-tailers in the UK on the consumer side, reaching the highest possible tier of partner level I would not expect that.
If this isn't the case then it goes back to my original point that the stock issues after "Paper Launch" could be spreading to consumer division. But then again this "may" be a one off situation but again we will not see until the stock lands.

What are the chances these 4790s will be used in the prebuilt gaming rigs. Was about to fork out for a prebuilt Titan Sabre. (Don't think I have the patience to build my own again).
