Sounds like awesome progress and if you're able to hold that kind of speed over that kind of distance I reckon there is zero chance of you embarrassing yourself at a cycle club. Perhaps don't go for the highest race level stuff straight off the bat but tbh it looks like you won't struggle at all.

Yeah, its progressed really well. Up until 5/6 years ago I was always 'sporty' with football and running, but my knees gave in and kids came along and the weight piled on and I was out of breath running up the stairs!

I'm gonna give the club a go, but as you said probably just go out with the intermediate group to start with. Thanks.

Lovely weather out there today, and I've been sat inside all day with 5.5 hours of exams. :( Haven't been out for over 2 weeks due to whether/revision and I'm hoping to do a club ride (albeit at easy one) on saturday followed by london to brighton on sunday.

You are only permitted to take part in the Bike Ride on single speed, mountain and tandem bikes.

Safety email received today from L2B, apparently I can't take my road bike as it has too many gears, not enough seats and doesn't weigh enough. Someone hasn't thought through that statement before including it in an email.

You'll do just fine in a club - if it's a forward thinking club it'll have options of rides and suchlike available for lots of different rider levels, as not everyone starts at a high level of fitness and cycling performance but with more experience & encouragement riders can improve themselves in that direction. And as already pointed out your fitness looks tasty already with an average like that :) After years of purely training on roads and tracks with a mtb then getting a road bike, joining a club was best thing I ever did - got introduced to loads of great people with similar interests, found out about lots of different cycling disciplines and had countless great days out on club rides or doing events. My fitness and cycling has come on lots too :)

The weather is unexpectedly good here this evening. Time to get some food in me, get the kids in bed and then get in the saddle.
Get out there mate, I'm having to rest the legs a few days now even though I don't want to

Shimano R170 wide fit; http://www.wiggle.co.uk/shimano-r170-spd-sl-road-cycling-shoes-wide-fit/
Check the reviews.

I'm a stock size 9 and the normal fit R170 in a 44 are perfect for me (i'd be a 43 normally, the size chart on Wiggle is spot on....ie just pick your UK size and then the corresponding EU size...dont size up using the chart!).

In the past i have tried a size 45 Shimano 'something or other' and it was too small, these are sizing almost like normal shoes now.

Right, ordered some of the Michelin Pro4 Endurance tyres. Grip, here I come :p

I've been eyeing some of these up to replace my old Krylion Carbons. I have been a little put off by the number of reviews on both Wiggle and CRC suggesting that people are finding they're splitting. The averages scores are still good, suggesting this a minority issue, but it's worrying. I hope you get on better with them. I'm still tempted to try them but dithering.

What happened to all the Continental GP 4000S love in this thread? Was there something wrong with version II?

Are Michelin Pro4 Endurance tyres any good? Getting Pro 4 Service seems to be a bit awkward at 25mm and the Endurange presumably will take a little longer to wear? edit2: Actually, easy enough to get Service Course tyres but presumably the Endurance have extra puncture protection?

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, Michelin Pro 4s > * ;).

Just seen this interesting gif of Froome from today:

My foot, for reference.

That's a skinny foot right there. I won't post mine but if I put my measurements in to the Bont calculator it tells me I need custom shoes. :o

Well that was a dumbass idea. Wasn't going to go out tonight, but changed my mind last minute, just going out for a gentle hour.

What a mistake that was. Got soaked to the skin half way round by heavy pounding rain in the form of enormous stinging raindrops. Wasn't fun, but managed to dry off by the time I got home.

And the hayfever when I got home....arggghghhghg!! My eyes!

Oh, and don't ride when full of pizza.

I used the Bont calculator when I bought some Riots and my feet are 110mm wide. The size (47) it recommended was wide enough but wayyyy too long. 46.5 was too narrow by about 2mm :(

I went with Giro Apeckx in 47 and they are much more comfortable. Tried on Specialized and Shimano's and both are unbelievably narrow... I have DHB R1.0 and M1.0 too and they are fine.

Save the pizza for after the ride mate ;)

Looked really nice hot & sunny this afternoon till I got out of work when it decided to go cloudy. I seem to have spent the evening asleep, yesterdays ride catching up with me at last
