Why would anyone stop short of the M5 when considering the 550i? Surely the extra outlay is mitigated by improved residuals?
Collect my new car this afternoon, having got back from the Download Festival.
Its a Melbourne Red M235i Auto
There is no F11 M5.
I wasn't talking about the F11.
If you where to buy a late model sub 100k mile e39 m5, how much money would you bank in a "broken car fund"?

The M5 is considerably more expensive and wasn't available for a while anyway.
That's a difficult question, it depends on what work has already been done / the condition it is in before purchase. Brakes and clutch are expensive, not sure about the vanos in these.
Please don't purchase one if you can't afford to keep it properly maintained. Decent ones are hard to find due to people doing exactly this![]()

Which is also a fair question, if you factor in residuals. If the 528i costs £35k and is worth £25k after three years, vs. a 535i which costs £40k but is worth £32k after three years, then the 535i is the better buy over three years even if it costs more to buy. I'm asking this same question of the 550i vs. M5.
If, after three years, the M5 is worth £45k vs. purchase price of £75k, and the 550i is worth £25k vs. purchase price of £60k, then it's not such a stupid comparison. But I've no idea what these comparative numbers are, that's partly why I'm asking.
If this is too much of a tangent to discuss sensibly in this thread then I'll go and read Google!
They just sound like every other V8 to me? My Range Rover and Merc both sound the same as that.
