Golf R - Test Drive

this might prove useful when checking how good or accurate your deal is.

rforums quote

The monthly costs are only for the options I ordered from Vehicle Savers. Multiply the monthly cost by 29 and add VAT for a 6+23 deal. Total lease cost £263.99+VAT per month.

Basic car 5 door, manual, 7R, Red £181+VAT
DSG £23.23+VAT=£808.41 (£1415)
DNS (Discover Navigation) £21.55+VAT=£749.93 (£750)
DCC (Dynamic Chassis Control) £23.41+VAT=£814.65 (£815)
Winter Pack £10.34+VAT= £359.82 (£360)
High Beam Assist £4.02+VAT=£139.88 (£140)
Smoker's Pack £0.43+VAT=£14.98 (£15)

The DSG is the only option with a good residual value. All others full price.

PS: Pretoria 19" wheels £25.72+VAT pm (£895), Metallic Paint £15.37+VAT pm (£535)

Doesn't make sense adding options, it's relatively well spec'ed already. You are paying full price for options you'll own for just 24 months of the cars life.

I have seen a figure of £208 inc VAT per month on pistonheads, I could be tempted around those prices. That's a staggering good deal. My other option is to buy a Mondeo for £1k, makes a second hand car look quite pointless.

I'd say unless you're doing it as cheap as possible paint and dsg is worth it, rest am not fussed about for a lease.

As you say it's reasonably well specced out the box, plenty enough for me anyway.

Just not a fan of them in red so much, and I love dsg so would stump for that too.

Been thinking about this a lot today (spent 6 hours in the car today so plenty of time not doing much lol), can't really think of anything else I'd do at the moment apart from keep the A3.

Shocking that the paint and option's are full price. most orders i have seen have gone with the lapis blue which again is full price. Agree with the DSG. I have it on my A1 and would not go back to manual again..

Every time I convince myself that this isn't a good idea right now I keep coming back to it as I think it's staggering value for money for such a car. Might throw the gauntlet down to a local dealer to see if they can beat the best price I have found.

Whats the option cost of adaptive ride on other cars though, thats what DCC is isn't it? Adaptive dampers with selectable modes.

£815 not worth it imho , Audi Charge £995 for there magnetic ride
All you miss is the comfort setting, but i believe from my test-drive i had Race,Normal and Eco available. Test drove car without and it was more than fine :)

there's a chap called Phil on RForums who works at the dealer from which all these lease companies buy from

you can save some money going direct with him (save on admin fees that you would pay to the lease company)

check his prices: http://www.rforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?p=167446#p167446

Actually he came in a little higher than VehicleSaver's for what i chose, but it all depends if on your choice.. ,

Still debating this, over thought things the other night and went back to look at the company options.

So an R through the company is 460 a month, that's all in one payment for all the motoring costs.

A GTD is about £330.

I worked out with servicing, excess mileage etc that a personally leased R would be in the region when averaged out of about 440/450 a month.

I don't know what's wrong with me, I'm sat here thinking hmm I quite fancy a GTD (filling the A3 up twice in a day yesterday didn't help, and doesn't look good for the future with regards to excess mileage hehe).

But fear not, my mind will likely change again tomorrow, or the next hour, not really having much in the way of requirements, preference or budget isn't helping matters.

The R would not be great for this as the mileage on these special deals are limited and the excess mileage charges would not be great if you plan to run this for business imho

Residuals on the entry stuff are crummy and its the lease costs that need to cover that for the lease company, plus there is probably a bigger % discount on the sporty models as the increase in retail cost is somewhat inflated compared to actual cost of the manufacturer building it.

Thought I'd ask here as I know a few of you have been dealing with lease companies. If I was to order a 6+23 personal lease car with a 10 week lead time, when do I make the 6 month payment? Close to collection or as a deposit for the build when ordering?

It varies by company, I know gateway2lease will just take a deposit until a week or so before delivery ( can't remember how much, couple of hundred maybe)

Friend of mine at work managed to get his just in time, but the broker told him all other orders after his were getting cancelled.

I didn't order in the end. I contacted my 2 local dealers to see what they could do. The first took my details and the details of the deal via the broker but I never heard from him again. The second told me to email him the details because he didn't have time to write down the 4 piece of information he needed in order to match/beat the broker pricing. I told him I'll go elsewhere.

Gave up after that, doubt this deal will be coming back given all the issues with VW either. Well done to anyone who went for this, you'll end up with a cracking car for a couple of years.
