I personally disagree about dropped bars. I tried them and couldn't get along with the bike at all.

Tyre questions.

I have a 29er hardtail for my commute but as part of my fitness regime to ensure im faster than my mates at BPW i am cycling home via the local XC trails.

I need a tyre that rolls well on tarmac and is decent wearing hard compound that wont be gone after a week on tarmac.

I also need it to be OK on some XC trails mainly dirt and gravel.

I killed a nobby nic on tarmac on my bandit canny remember what compound it was though.

Any suggestions.

I've got land cruisers on my cyclocross bike they roll pretty good on tarmac and don't make that horrible noise like most dirt trail tyres do

only £15 each and they have a kevlar lining so your unlikely to get any punctures.

I've done over 1500 miles on schwalbe kevlar guarded tyres and not a single puncture yet

Any peeps in here with kids - any of you got a kids' seat that's mounted on the TT?

Saw an article on Pinkbike today, and it's exactly what I'm after. Natalie is quite keen to hang on to my handlebars, so prefer that to some of the TT mounted seats that lays the child back.

Would love this to be available now: http://www.pinkbike.com/news/the-mac-ride-2014.html

Saw some other solutions, but I fear for my top tube somewhat:

The PB article is a good read. Looks to be a really good product too. Just seems to be quite expensive.

With the recent good weather the natural trails near me are riding really well. Long may it continue. It's shocking for much fitness I've lost since having a bit of an off. 3 weeks and a 5 day break in ibiza have done some damage.

Been watching some BPW videos on youtube recently. That place looks insane compared to what we have over here, wish it wasn't as costly to get over for a weekend.

I read somewhere that you were having a similar bike park to BPW over there in Ireland?
Edit: not this but a new one : http://www.bikeparkireland.ie

Right, I come in this thread looking for a chain guide and I end up spending £300+!

I bought a RaceFace NarrowWide chain-ring, started stripping bike, found my Crank Arm was 120pcd. Quality, then realise my bottom bracket is odd as well so need one of them, then my mech is completely worn out, so need one of them. Might as well swap to Shimano, so add a shifter. Great. Chuck in a chain and cassette and its a lot of money :(

Bought:

Zee Cranks and BB,
Zee Short Cage Rear Mech
XT 36 Rear Cassette
KMC Chain
RaceFace NarrowWide
XTShifter
Formula Brake Bleed Kit

:(

I also still need wheels and a headset!! :(

rode my bike to work without chain guide whilst i was awaiting a new mount to turn up, OMG how many times does a chain fall off without a guide, must have fallen of like 5 times in the mile and half journey on the way home

Not sure what you're doing but my slx shadow+ held my chain firm today on the South Downs even when I flung myself into a hedge row full of nettles and brambles..
