£50m for Saurez would be a bargain, no offence to Liverpool, but it would be interesting to see what he would do at a world class team.

It's sounding increasingly like Xavi is off to play in Qatar, 8.3mil euro's a year, which doesn't exactly sound monumental, what is that like 160k a week. Then again I wouldn't be surprised if that ended up being basically tax free or something.

But rumours seem to be saying, Xavi has been offered a contract, they want him to stay but he left for personal reasons. Valdes has refused to sign a new contract, Barca have publicly again stated that if he changes his mind they'd offer him a contract, but he's leaving for personal reasons. Fabregas saying he was asked to stay, but he left for personal reasons.

Okay Fabregas's girlfriend/kid are in London(no idea why though?) so a genuine enough reason, but this is three players leaving for personal reasons who the club want to stay. Xavi might genuinely not be good enough but frankly I'd keep him around and then offer him a coaching role even if he didn't play that much and I'm sure Barca would want that, but he's leaving for a pointless team and some money.

Fabregas and Valdes are at the top of their game, two of the best players in the team, I would put them pretty much top 4 in the team right now. Feels like something is rotten at Barca to me and some players want out. Valdes going was really odd, but that is just one player, Fabregas leaving seems odder still but there are potential reasons for him leaving, but Xavi... making it three players leaving for "personal" reasons and Xavi just seemed almost dead certain to see out his career there and end up a future coach/manager and he's left for the arse end of nowhere in football terms.

Not really sure what you're getting at but Valdes said he wanted to leave a season or more ago because he wanted a new challenge having won everything at Barca. Xavi's nearing the end of his career and has visibly started to decline so probably wants an easy final few years on a decent wage and like it or not, Fabregas did not fit in at Barcelona. They tried to accommodate him across the entire midfield and as a number 10 but wherever he played he effected the form of other players so was moved again. There's no doubt he's a world class player and had some amazing stats but that was at the expense of everyone else and I believe only 14 of his goals over 3 seasons effected the outcome of a game which says a lot about him.

Edit: Anyway, bring on the hate

Really, Messi had his best ever season, Iniesta had his best ever assisting season(by a huge margin) and continued his really woeful scoring record which he's had his entire career.

Which player did worse, Xavi, while Iniesta/Messi managed their career bests with Fabregas in the team? Sanchez had his best season in the season in which Messi played less. But again Sanchez had a phenomenal season, Pedro scored plenty, and Villa had a fantastic season last year before he left.

Brought in a better player, Messi, Sanchez, Villa all did brilliantly with him there.

Messi has as he's moved further forward and seemingly forced players out, effected everyone elses stats to a larger degree. With frankly some of their best performances coming without Messi.

Either way, as I said Valdes alone leaving for personal reasons, sure, believable, add a second, coincidence, Xavi leaving makes it three, all for pretty weak ass reasons.

Xavi would in most situations move to a proper team like Valdes intended to, or say Raul went to a CL team.

Xavi moving out of Europe completely for a bit of money he could get at Monaco or elsewhere, suggests that both Barca want him and Barca won't sell him to competing team. His contract was afaik not up, meaning Barca don't want him to leave, think he's good enough and won't sell him to a rival. Rather than wait for his contract to be up he's moving to a club Barcelona will actually sell him to. That is beyond bizarre to me, wait what a year longer and move to a european CL team and get very similar money?

His contract is up in 2016, he's not leaving for money(come on, he's stupid rich and could get stupid money anywhere in europe still), he's not leaving to win other cups.. he's going to Qatar. Barca are basically saying "If you have to force your way out your only option is an entirely different region" and Xavi said yes, not okay I'll wait a bit longer.

That is not normal, it really really isn't normal at all.

As for goals, you're saying about 1/3 of his goals were directly effecting the result, I'm guessing you don't realise that is a high percentage, not low, then what about his assists. One playing having a key effect on 1/3 of results(from just goal scoring) is fantastic, now add in assists and that gets even better.

Sounds like Kostas Mitroglou will sign for Besiktas on loan (no idea about signing permanently) in the next few days. Be good to have the wages off our bill, hopefully opens us up to sign McCormack, still need another striker or two though.

Looks like the Aurier to Arsenal thing is pretty much sown up for the princely sum of £8m. To be fair I've not heard of him, and I'm scared that he is just 21... but its probably going to be better than Jenkinson.

We are hearing that McCormack won't move for less than £7m and will only move if it's a Prem club that comes in for him.

Antonio Valencia signs 3 year contract extension at Manchester United.

Was really hoping he'd be one of the players heading for the door with a better replacement coming in. Has been beyond awful for the last two seasons. Who knows, maybe Van Gaal can get him playing well again.

I'd rather keep Valencia and get rid of Young. We can't get rid of them all at once, sadly.

I think Van Gaal might try him centrally, or if his form continues, not at all. :p

As I said before, it was that CL game against Rangers where he broke his ankle that really affected him - he's not been the same since.

Agreed. Still, I don't think he's on a particularly high wage or anything (I don't think he has an agent either), so it's probably worth keeping him around. He can still damage the weaker teams in the PL at times. Really has to work on his final ball though, it's getting worse.

There are a few players who I feel should get a chance under LVG to "sort it out, or go" - Valencia being one of them.

I just can't help but feel he should have been signed up for one, maybe two years more at most and then offered something longer if he rediscovers his form.

Unlike Young, I do think it's in there somewhere.

I'm just getting more worried that this is what is going to happen to all our current players. We will start the season with 1 or two signings and then the rest of the **** we should have dumped over the past few seasons. Why give him a 3 year contract instead of a 2 year one?
