Tackling and challenges are part of the game. It's a known quantity. It's accepted that in the course of events players are going to attempt to take the ball from each other with their feet, and sometimes that is going to be a bit on the reckless side and punished accordingly.

Where is biting supposed to fit into the rules?

That is pretty much what I was gonna say, which is lucky as I'm on my phone and don't have to type it all out now!

I seriously question what punishment a ban will offer ?

To do it three times in his career, the lads got issues deeper than football that's for sure. Banning him won't change that behaviour.

Surely Fifa and the FA also have to consider the 100's of potential opponants and their safety from being bitten in all liklihood of it happening again?

First offence, this should not even be considered, but after 3 similar incidences they would be seriously wayward in not thinking about it.

Included in the ban is medical treatment for his career

What about players who get several red cards a season? Surely they are a liability to players safety as well?

I think a lifetime ban is too much... I think 12 months (1 season, whatever) with mandatory therapy should he wish to return to football. There is obviously something deep rooted here.

If it was to happen a 4th time after a 12 month ban, then he should be retired from the game. The sport doesn't need it.

I realise some people might not agree with my views but I feel football needs to change and take note from other sports (what the ref says goes... and you don't approach the ref unless you are called)

Am I alone in being perplexed by the outrage?

Biting is bad but no worse than dangerous tackles in my mind. Bad challenges can end careers, bites will leave a bruise at worst. Yes it's undignified, and yes he should get a ban, but I don't see it as worse than other straight red card offences.

Human bites have been shown to transmit hepatitis B, hepatitis C, herpes simplex virus (HSV), syphilis, tuberculosis, actinomycosis, and tetanus.

I can't see how anyone can think this is not a serious offence deserving of a ban. Behaviour like this during the most high profile event in world football going unpunished would be unthinkable - especially as the player involved has previous.

Here we go:

:o

Mo reason why Fifa couldnt make it a precident given the outrage about to happen ( and I cant see anyone being surpriaed given his history)

Im sure Fifa cam only enforce 2 years, but the FA can, and usually do, follow their own guidelines lol

Given that he hasnt yet changed sides, I wonder if the FA csn just say that they dont accept his registration for x months / years at club level

Im sure the ban gets bigger for increased numbers of yellow and red cards rules are in place for this.

Liverpool fan here... move along....

Go masturbate to the videos that are up atm, because there will be no new material for you for a fair old while (hopefully)...

I'm a Liverpool fan and in my opinion Suarez is one step away from cutting his next victims face off and wearing it for a mask. I don't give a **** how good he is, the man is a nutbar. A grown man who bites people DURING A FOOTBALL GAME. The only time I've seen someone sink their teeth into someone else was during a street fight. He's a ****ing disgrace.

Do you realise how comical you are sounding?

Tell me how many players recently got multiple reds in the same season for actually seriousely hurting players every time ( rather than multiple yellows for relatively nothing, or reds for the potential to hurt)

If you cant see the many differences them there really is something wromg with you too lol

They do, though, I can't think of many players that actually get several cards every year. A couple players get 2 or 3 but then likely won't repeat that. Gustavo got 3 with Wolfsburg but from what I remember got none with Bayern for several years before it.

Vieira got a couple for a couple years but then not many after that. Also a lot of reds aren't given for really terrible tackles but, persistent little fouls, and there are incorrect reds given, though on that note there are more deserved reds not given than incorrect reds given... Suarez really has deserved a whole crapload of red cards he for whatever reason hasn't gotten. Dozens of dives that went unpunished, stamps, bad tackles, hell he could probably have a dozen extra yellows for dissent.... per game :p

He should be banned from the next World Cup imo, that's the only way he's going to feel any kind of remorse.

A general ban is going to hurt Liverpool far more than Luis himself.

He clearly has mental problems if he thinks that, when things get tough, an acceptable option is to bite another man.

He needs a hefty ban as if he hasn't learned after 2 prior bans it needs to be something serious. No doubt it will be 5 games and brushed under the carpet once again.

If FIFA say 2 years blanket, FA have to follow it - they have the power of that.

If it is a blanket ban then FA have no choice, but the FA do have the choice to make their ban longer ( even though it wouldnt apply im Europe / imternationals)

If they choose to of course.
