The fact that they initially asked for £30m (which is a little OTT but understandable) at the end of the summer, and then suddenly increased it by 33% in a matter of a few weeks

I don't understand why its fishy, if they feel United are willing to pay the £30m they'll probably ask for more?

So why ask for £30m a few weeks ago - why not ask for £40m originally

I doubt LVG will sanction a 40m move for shaw he could buy the entire Netherlands backline for that

And watch them get obliterated by the completely different playing style of the EPL week after week - no thanks!!

Might've been happy with 30m, United may have happily paid that, seeing that they're asking for more or they've decided they want to keep him

Like we dont know how that usually ends after a player has asked to leave (with the price set)

Just think its wrong to try and squeeze that much % out of another club after they stated their price (why state a price they are happy with only to change their minds)

The board are acting like ***** (not too dis-similar to what they are seemingly trying to do with Llalana)

£40m for Shaw is an awful lot, especially when you consider we could get someone of comparable quality (over the next season or so) for a fraction of that price.

However, if he plays for us for 12 years and doesn't demand a high wage to start with, £40m isn't a huge amount in the long run.

Have Southampton actually stated a price for Shaw or are we assuming that because it was reported in the press to be that that it must be fact?

Regardless, we have a manager now who may have stipulated that no one is to leave without his say so hence he can set whatever price he wants. As for your Lallana comment, give over.

Why shouldn't they? They don't want to lose him so milk the most out of the person who wants to buy them.

Not really sure how they're acting, I mean he's at the WC and the window isn't even open yet. Hopefully they do act like ***** to keep lallana though :p

Its not an assumption, because multiple stories (with multiple sources) were all saying the same £30m price when Utd initially offered £27m.

The new manager is irrelevant, IF the board say one figure (which I believe they did from multiple earlier stories) , its very bad form to suddenly increase by such a huge factor.

Remember a big factor in this is that Shaw said goodbye to his team mates after the last match (against Utd) and told the club he wanted to leave - so they already MUST have had a price in their head at that point.

I find it very hard to believe that suddenly the board are only just leaking the price to the press - they were doing it before too (when there wasnt a manager, and before any bids for Llalana had been received either)

Purdy - just out of interest why are you being as pig-headed about this as you are about your lover Luis? lol Not saying you have to agree, you dont, but you seem to HAVE to have the last word!!

edit - Ladbrokes has suspended betting on Stefan de Vrij joining Utd (and Utd have supposedly agreed a fee)

I'm questioning how its fishy or not fair, everyone attempts to get the most out of every player they sell, Southampton don't seem to be doing anything different.

It would kind of make my other posts pointless if I didn't try to get the answer to what I was asking as I don't see them asking for more if United are willing to pay it as unfair or fishy.

Press in printing multiple stories about the next big youngster from Southampton in order to sell papers shocker.

The press have no idea if the board have a price in mind for Shaw (every time the club released a positive statement the next day the Daily Mail released a negative story on us to **** all over it) or if they intend to sell him at all. Shaw has not handed an official transfer request in either. Getting upset about a press report saying they have increased a fee is a bit silly to be honest.

Anyway, United aren't short of a few bob, why not try and bleed them dry? If they say no, great, we have Shaw on a long contract.

It apparently hasn't occurred as a possibility to Frank that someone else has now made an offer above 30mil for Shaw and as such the price they will accept from Utd has changed. If lets say Barca or Real offered 35 or 40mil because Utd looked like they'd have 30mil accepted then Southampton would rightly say, well the price has gone up.

Some people just seem to forget what bidding and auctions are, prices have gone up on players many hundreds of times in the past. There is also a lot of situations in which clubs want more for a certain player from clubs in the same league. I bring this up because if someone has offered 30mil for Shaw it would be strange for say Real to go and offer 40mil a 10mil increase out of nowhere, 5mil makes more sense, and Southampton might prefer he goes abroad and doesn't play against them so would take 35mil from a Spanish team but want 40mil from Utd.

Sorry but when did prices going up become bad form... when it was your club on the end of the increase rather than another club? boo hoo, to pretend like it's unheard of is just nuts, it's common as hell.

I think we would have found out by now if there was another party involved. The only other interest I had heard of was Chelsea who were put off by the price.

It doesn't matter whether another club is interested. Southampton aren't in a rush to sell Shaw, his value isn't going to suddenly fall off a cliff. If they sense that Utd are desperate enough to keep upping their bid then they'd be mad to just accept £30m if they can get more.

Fernando to City looks set to be done, Porto have said a deal is confirmed for 12m.
By all accounts a really good player and a decent price. Will be interesting to see if he plays alongside Fernandinho and Yaya if he stays ahead of them or what Pellegrini will do.
