The Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q – a 27” 1400p 144Hz Monitor with G-SYNC

gibbo, does OCUK ship to EU countries or UK only? also, do you stick to standard EU regulations regarding DSRs and such? (14 work days). i'm in slovakia and really considering picking one up, but i'm rally weary about the color reproduction, since it's a TN panel. i don't are as much for the viewing angles (unless they're totally bad), since i only view the screen head-on, but the color reproduction bothers me, i guess i'm too used to IPS panels (mostly DELL).

Panel manufacturers certainly do still have glossy options on the table. They aren't widely used at the moment at all, however.

What does '8-bit' have to do with the screen surface texture? :confused: It's panel manufacturer AUO who will decide on the screen surface texture, whilst listening to ASUS' feedback on the issue. They make a range of different matte screen surface from very smooth 'semi glossy' ones to the grainier matte surfaces seen on the likes of the VG248QE.

I see your point, but what I meant is, if they put the effort to make the screens colours a notch better than standard 6bit TN then you'd assume the screen surface would also be higher quality, wouldnt make sense to spend like £100 extra for better colours and not spend the £25 (guesstimating here) for a higher quality screen surface. I'm just assuming every part will be high quality basically.

pre-ordered, been waiting forever for this thing!

however, it only has 1 display port, and i have 2 computers i want to connect (and switch between)
anyone know of a kvm or displayport switch that will handle 1440p @144 ?

A matte coating doesn't equate to higher quality, a lot of people much prefer the glossy surface of some panels as it can result in a crisper less grainy image. This is why I went for a glossy IPS panel for my monitors.

The grainy matte screen surfaces aren't 'low quality' or necessarily cheaper to manufacture. They're built to specific standards which includes a relatively high 'haze value' and purposefully roughed up screen surface. I know what you mean though. You don't see the point in putting lots of effort into making the monitor as nice as it can be within the constraints of TN panel technology only to destroy the image quality with a grainy matte screen surface. And I completely agree. :)

Wow, I was sold on this at one point. But then BenQ BL3200PT for £450 weekly special. I'm enjoying those extra 5"!

However, I'm still VERY glad to see monitor technology finally hurtling along again! :)
 
I been waiting for this monitor for months to be released.

But I am running two msi gtx 670 pe 2gb in sli will these two cards be ok to game at 1440p with good fps or will I have to upgrade to say 2 msi 780 in sli ect 3gb or even the new 6gb versions?

Will 2gb vram be a problem at 1440p?
