I think if Liverpool got 50 mil plus Sanchez, they should take it. You can do a lot with 50 mil. Fill out the squad and add a quality player like Sanchez. Whether Sanchez would go is another matter, that could be the tumbling block. I don't think Barca have 70/80 mil straight cash to spend on a player after last years fiasco.

If he scores lots of goals and he makes lots of money the club won't really care, they obviously dislike him missing fractions of the season (thankfully making up for it by never being injured).

I think it is pretty clear, LFC are in no need to sell and don't want to so they'll value him pretty highly and as much as they want.

I never suggested that they NEEDED to sell

However he is still an investment, and so LFC will unlikely want to see this devalue further with more acts of "vampire tendancies" or racism......or whatever he chooses next, and its pretty clear to majority of people that he isnt going to learn any time soon not to do this.

The club is also losing money when he is sitting on the bench - at least when a player is injured 9 times out of 10 its because of whats happened playing for that club not for reasons the player should really have learnt better by now.

I think its pretty clear that the club (and every club) care what their players do these days (when even injured drunk players get bad press, and fined by the club) , if you really think they dont care I seriously think you are fooling yourself.

Not mentioning that Suarez is what 27 yrs old now? Still got a couple good years left, but $80m? Liverpool would be laughing with that one, guess it makes up for Andy Carol :D

To be fair I think they made up for Andy Carroll the same week he signed when they sold Torres for £50m. While he'd been fantastic for Liverpool in the 2008-2009 season, in the calendar year 2010 he was already looking like a shadow of his former self. Better than when he joined Chelsea and couldn't hit a barn door, but he was already heading well down that path.

I genuinely thought it was just a lack of confidence in his latter Liverpool days and he'd flourish at Chelsea again, but it never happened.

I don't think they'd mine him being devalued if they kept him, he will be valued at what they decide to sell him for.

Of course they care and prefer they are model players, but they'll overlook it when the play is the best in the league and generates a **** load of money. I still don't see where LFC would value him lower after one of best individual performances over a season since in the past 20 years.

If Suarez is valued by Liverpool at £80m, then lets say Barca want him on a 5 year contract, 4 months out of that only equates to a lost value of £5-6m, so quite why Liverpool would consider dropping the price by £20m, its fantasy.

Any occurrences after that are on Barca, so again why would Liverpool drop the price?

You would think that he was banned for being such a good player from what you are all saying. He was banned for being a general **** on the pitch and he has quite a consistent record of doing monumentally stupid stuff throughout his career. That is why he isn't worth 80m.

If he had put the last incident behind him and had a great world cup then you would have an argument but he didn't. He has bitten 3 people and is lucky to have escaped punishment a number of times for violence. He was found guilty of racially abusing Evra and no one in their right might would think that he won't do something stupid like this again.

If you get £80m for him then Barcelona are complete mugs.

Tbh I don't see why the ban should make as much difference as people are saying to his value. I mean, I think £80m isn't unreasonable, ignoring the ban... and then why would missing thirteen games, or however many it'd be at Barcelona, halve that figure or cut it down to £30m (as some are saying, if Sanchez is ~£30m)?

No one involved actually cares about the reputation side of it, if we're being honest... so just the missing game factor hardly halves his value/more than halves it. if he had a muscle injury which was going to make him miss the first two months, I don't think it'd affect his value much/at all.

In buying him over someone else that is 13 games then that he won't effect the league and competitions. Then what about his next ban, one more incident and they'll go bigger again. Two more incidents over a four year contract and Fifa might consider giving him a two year ban... how much is he worth then.

Barca are more than stupid enough to ignore it, but anyone with half an ounce of sense realises he's not worth 80million, or anything close.

AS a hint, what would people put Bale's chances of getting a 2 year ban at? Neymar's chance of a 2 year ban? Suarez's? Risk, value of everything is usually tightly related to risk. He's got a significant ban, IIRC in each of the past 4 seasons, with increasing bans each time. I'd say there was a higher chance of another incident within the length of any contract he signs for Barca than the chance he'll not do something nuts again. ANyone who thinks that shouldn't impact value at all is basically delusional.

Same way a top striker at 27 who has missed 2 of the past 4 years with serious knee injuries doesn't go for the same price as someone who goes largely uninjured, even if this player has been fit for a couple months. Why, risk, player you think might have weak knee's and has had two serious injuries in recent years has a higher chance of knee problems than other players and is worth less.

Yeah, it's crazy. I mean, say he wasn't banned and was worth £80m now. If he was sold in January would he magically be worth £30/40m?! Of course not. It's crazy.

He wasn't worth 80million before the last bite, and the media/Liverpool have been trying to pump up his value with a huge disclaimer..... that he DOES NOT BITE AGAIN(or racial abuse, stamp on, otherwise try to injure another player). He did, he might be worth 80million IF you could trust him, if he wasn't going to miss 1/4 of every season, if he went even one year without a major incident, he failed, he never reached this goal. He was never actually at any stage worth 80mil.

It was 80mil IF you can ever believe he'll be a sensible professional footballer, he never became that, he only pretended to be that and couldn't even manage it for one season.

Calculate how many games Bale has missed in the last 4 years, then calculate how many games Suarez has missed in the last 4 years, i'm not sure there will be too much difference tbh. People are opportunistic, Barca will believe that they can change him and that he won't do it on their watch. Remember the figures being quoted are slightly higher because Pool don't want to sell. It's like Sanchez being undervalued at Barca, they want rid, therefore willing to lower the price.

And I could accept that if after the 'racism incident', and two other bites, etc, Liverpool hadn't given him a contract on a load more money. If Barton doesn't get £70k/week, or whatever it is. Etc. Football is mad and values players hugely, even when there's risk associated with them, because the rewards they can bring are even greater.

Yet Barton's transfer value plummeted to nothing, precisely the point. Suarez could have gotten a 2 year ban, sat out being paid, and walked out of Liverpool on a free.

Wages and transfer fee's are different things. Wages can be stopped, transfer fee is one off. If Suarez does something to say pick up a two year ban, Barca could put it in his contract that he doesn't get paid while serving any ban, thus they wouldn't lose any money while he was out but his hypothetical 80million transfer fee for a guaranteed say 4-5 year service could become 2-3 years instead, literally halving his footballing value.

Wages can be negated, transfer value is different and the fact that Barton was worth nothing with no one remotely willing to risk paying money for a player who may get another ban or end up in jail again proves this precisely.

By not paying him during any ban time, a 2 or 20 year contract, with 0 or 20 years of ban would end up costing them the same effective per game value. The transfer fee wouldn't change with a huge ban though... unless they paid 80mil with 40mil to be repaid in the event of another huge ban but can't see that happening. You can terminate a contract for conduct such as Suarez's or Barton's, you can't go back and claim half a transfer fee back on the same basis. No one would pay 80mil for Ronaldo after his second knee injury, no one should pay 80mil for a player who is picking up several month long bans with regularity.

Again , the 80mil thing was presuming he had fixed his ways and was a better person who wouldn't go getting more bans, with all the apologies, promises of changing, stories about the wife calling him crazy and realising he needed to do better for his family, all bull****. It's still all bull**** except it's now been proven, it's absolutely proven that regardless of what he says he's a monumental risk.

Injuries is a risk all players have, there is no way to have a player with no injury risk and a previously fit player can pick up a career ending injury.

Difference is insurance can and will cover the cost of a player in such circumstances... you think there is equivalent cover from insurance to pay the players wages while he's banned for effectively a criminal act? I don't think so.

Its also fantasy to expect full value after what he has done multiple times

Also factor in the extra money being gained from global deals. Money is going to carry on going up..

I think you will find more clubs doing "local" deals in the future - they might get less money initially /per deal (and potentially find it easier to complete each deal), but they will probably generate more money signing multiple deals in different continents / areas.

FYI - I think it was mentioned the other day that including this ban (if Liverpool keep him) he will have lost a full season through bans while in England (to be eact 32 games rather than 38 if someone wants to knit pick lol)

edit in other news there is rumour going around that Utd have come to an agreement with Juve over Evra depending on what LvG wants to do when he gets to England. Personally for the single year we are talking about I would keep him if he is happy being 2nd choice. His dressing room leadership and experience would be invaluable to Shaw for this first year but depends on what Juve want to pay us......or knock off their pricetag for Vidal (:

If we do sell would much prefer a cheap experienced player for direct competition (kind of) for Shaw rather than an even less experienced youngster (Dutch probably) player

Reality is that he is a major player on his day and one that can single handily win games / trophies and thus will command a high price even though he is a self serving little **** with no loyalty.

If he is perceived as being on the market I can see all the major spenders going in and his price will rise. I've seen twitter comments that RM, MCFC have already started sniffing around now it seems Liverpool might be open to offers.

Actually Liverpool have to sell now; not because of the continued poor behaviour but because of this lack of loyalty. It makes them look weak.

Suarez is a great player.
No doubt about it.
He punished England dearly in the WC, even though his Liverpool team-mates knew the threat he possessed.
H finished top goal scorer a few months ago in the league.
He got the awards/plaudits from his peers and journalists.

His "incident" has raised his profile and even those who don't follow football, have now heard of him.
In South America, he is heralded as a hero.
There is plenty of money to be made from his image rights.

And with regards to him missing 10 games per season due to being banned - he still finishes as top goal scorer, after missing so many games, so that shouldnt bother a top club who want a guaranteed goal scorer.

This is the reason why any top club would be happy to sign Suarez for the right money. Liverpool may yet fight to keep him, though.

How much is Suarez worth (to a big team)? Probably around the £70M mark.

I remember DM gave many reasons why Barca would not let Fabregas go.
But we all know what happened.

got absolutely no relevance what so ever

H finished top goal scorer a few months ago in the league.

When Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal didnt have a scorer for large parts of the season, not really much to boast about.

He got the awards/plaudits from his peers and journalists..

Well done for completely ignoring what widespread journo's did to him and Liverpool the last two or three times he did anything in this country (10 times worse than any praise he got for last season)

His "incident" has raised his profile and even those who don't follow football, have now heard of him.
In South America, he is heralded as a hero.

1stly - just because more people have heard of him doesnt have any relevance to how much he is worth (as they are unlikely to be football followers anyway so wont make a jot of difference even in media circles)

Last time I looked the majority of money is in North America and Europe and emerging markets like Africa, not really in South America (and seeing as thats where he is from, one country out of many might think of his as a hero majority is still the opposite)

There is plenty of money to be made from his image rights..

One personal sponsor has already "sacked" him - but yeah of course

And with regards to him missing 10 games per season due to being banned - he still finishes as top goal scorer, after missing so many games, so that shouldnt bother a top club who want a guaranteed goal scorer.

But we all know what happened.

as mentioned for one particularly poor season in the EPL - he certainly wont be top scorer at Barca if/when he goes.

Do you realise what's the biggest driving force behind the growth of football in North America Frank? The Latin American market.

And Africa? lol

I love it when Ocuk experts have their say on transfer values. Liverpool should have sold Torres to Chelsea when they initially offered £35m for him and they should have sold Suarez to Arsenal for £35-40m because that was a fair value. How did they both turn out?

Suarez will be sold for whatever Liverpool want (up to the value of his release clause) whether you think he's worth it or not. He's an absolute genius and there's only a handful of players in the world that can influence games like he can. Yes he's nuts and ends up getting banned for 10 games per season but in the last 3 full seasons Suarez has played 97 PL games, the same amount as RvP and more than both Rooney and Aguero - he's never injured.

Fulham have signed another player I've never heard of from Basel. Kay Voser - plays primarily right back, but can play left back too.. Gets good words about him though from Swiss fans, so can't be too bad. Not bad having signed two right backs, both who played Champions League football last season.
