Just a little sidetrack from the whole Suarez saga........

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28106350

Delighted to see a former Brechin City Youth player make a £3m move to Sporting Lisbon. In the past season he's had some great performances for United as well as getting an U21 Scotland Cap.

With the talk above about Carvalho being a bit steep with a £37m buy out clause, Gauld trumps it with a £48m buy out clause in his 6 year contract! Not bad for an 18yr old!

Scotland to Portugal? Lucky bugger! :(

Paper talk - no one could speak to the chile squad whilst they were still in the WC.

Really? Do they not have phones or the internet? or maybe half the worlds football journalists just happen to be in Brazil covering some event?

The players aren't on lock down hell some have even managed to complete transfers whilst on world cup duty they must be magicians!

Will be interesting to see what Liverpool do Suarez is not a player you can replace so they will have to think a little differently. Unless they get very lucky the team will inevitably be weaker next year.

Well Liverpool will surely get good money for Suarez but it's like the Bale situation really. The player is irreplaceable and the team will be weaker after he leaves.

I'd probably settle for finishing with three less points like they did for next year

We're not spurs, we don't have a dof buying players above the managers head, we also have a style of play that players will brought for unlike spurs. Yes he is an astonishing player and he will be missed but plenty of teams carry on and do even better once a star leaves. If anything spurs were the anomaly in doing worse than the previous year.

I would not say no to Di Maria. Rodriguez would be a much better choice but he will cost a small fortune.

Hope this paper talk of Sanchez preferring to join Arsenal has some substance behind it. First Balotelli, now Sanchez, next will no doubt be Rodriguez! Hopefully we can get someone decent in to replace Giroud.

Valdes has failed his medical at Monaco.

Why have a medical, didn't he do his knee ligaments and not that long ago? Everyone said at the time it was so close to end of season it may prevent him easily finding a club, but ultimately loads of transfers go through despite "failing" a medical.

I think it's unlikely his knee injury would be so bad he'll never play again, just not healed fully by now. If anything a club has a, vested interested I guess, in a failed medical for a stronger negotiating position. "well we're not too sure about your knee so we'll offer you 100k a week instead of 150k a week, and 35k for every week you are fit".

I still find it very odd, Valdes going to Monaco for a new challenge... seems like he went to a meh club with zero chance of the champs league in the next few years, with not much chance of winning the league title either. He left for money, despite Barca offering him loads of cash, with far less chance of winning things. If he wanted a challenge(which I presume most people interpret as winning a different top league), he'd be going to a EPL/Bundesliga/Serie A team, not a weak and not competitive league, not least of which Monaco are years behind PSG in terms of establishing themselves in Europe.

Hope this paper talk of Sanchez preferring to join Arsenal has some substance behind it. First Balotelli, now Sanchez, next will no doubt be Rodriguez! Hopefully we can get someone decent in to replace Giroud.

If we got Sanchez, it would be as a wide player not a striker, so no Giroud replacement. It would likely mean either Podolski or Santi leaving, Podolski is good but Wenger doesn't seem to favour him over others and Santi is pretty much useless out wide. Podolski leaving rumours have persisted for a long time and Santi to Atletico, seemed to be on the cards with the player not appearing to say fat chance but more like... we'll talk about it after the world cup(but probably).

I don't really know what I think about Sanchez joining, I think the money would be better spent elsewhere, wages and transfer. Not convinced he'll do all that well defensively and with our existing fullbacks(and the ones Wenger has been buying) I don't think it will make for a strong side.

Arsenal need a centre forward/striker first, left and right fullbacks second, a top notch DM third priority and wide attackers with genuine pace and threat is important but easily last on the list. Spending 32mil there and ignoring everything else is not going to change a lot. Fullbacks and Giroud were our biggest weaknesses in every important game, Giroud's utter inability to attack a team on his own at all, and our fullbacks cost us goals over and over in every big game. 32mil and 150k+ a week can be so much better spent elsewhere in the team.

I agree, I'd rather have an out and out striker, someone who just puts it in the back of the net! Sagna has to be replaced although I bet Carl will now be 1st choice. Gibbs......urgh. Flamini and Arteta are going to be pushing on and another year older (more injuries, longer to recovery etc) and we desperately need a big name to come in and be able to grab the midfield by the scruff of the neck.
