Serious question. Jones and Smalling are decidedly average and Rafael is a disaster waiting to happen.

They need a new RB.

Waiting to happen? Already happened!

I'm no Utd fan and certainly a fan of Rafael but he hasn't overly improved over the past few seasons...so i actually agree with you.

Smalling and Jones are NOT good enough for Utd.

Agreed but the fact people forgot sounds like he isn't a great RB no?

Evans > Jones > Smalling.

No he isnt , Evans is a good CB though.

Rafa needs decent competition at RB to become a better player, which hopefully the Swiss and Uruguan U21 players (the latter is Valera ,sp?, ) should help with.

I hope Utd dont spend anything on a RB, its not an essential position to strengthen atm imo - depending on whether things coming out of the lower level teams are to be believed of course.

It also depends on how Utd want to play for the most part - 3-5-2 will be less dependant on a quality rb defender and would fit right into Rafael (and to a lesser extent Valencia, only due to form) temprament.

Evans needs a strong leader next to him, he isnt cut out to be the core of the defence but is a very good CB in his own right. Jones, while being several years younger in age and vastly in experience (at Utd at the very least) at CB may well be Utd and England CB for 10 years given how young he still is, and he is still a useful squad player in the interim. So no not a waste of £18m at all (even though currently I think Smalling is a better CB, but mainly due to the more chances he has been given in that position)

Looks like Suarez has agreed personal terms with Barca, £63m over 5 years. Still the fee structure to be worked out between clubs which will hinge on Sanchez.

About 5 reports say different tonight it's insane, too many people claiming completely different things one thing is certain he won't be our player anymore that's about it

You think he is DEFINITELY leaving Liverpool, this Summer?

Can't tell if that's sarcasm or not too tired, but yeah I felt last summer that seconed he signed his contract with the new clause put in that he would be gone summer after was just matter if he would give his all season before he left which he did

The Suarez reports in Spain (and there are a lot) all claim the agreed fee is £63m. Lower than I was expecting... if true.

Barca are still haggling to spread the fee out some more.

I'm guessing by the whole neymar deal whatever is repored in spain won't be the true fee, wonder if Ayre had a nice trip down in London

I'd be amazed if they tried to pull any of those tricks again or had liverpool remain complicit in it. It'll probably come out at a few million more.

Ben Smith saying Barcelona had agreed on Wednesday to meet the release clause and I fail to believe the release clause would be £63m. Makes a lot more sense that that is wages over 5 years, works out to around 240k a week.

Another interesting tit bit is that Sanchez has cut his holiday short and is flying back to Spain. Now if you were signing for Arsenal or Juventus, what's the rush? You'd just do it after your holiday... Fingers crossed he's coming to Liverpool.

I've seen every multiple of £1m between £60m and £80m being reported over the last few days.

Tariq Panja from bloomberg tweeted that Barca have told Liverpool that they're happy to pay Suarez's £70m+ release clause but that Liverpool aren't interested in a straight cash deal and want a deal involving Sanchez.

Of all the media rumours, of which I believe none, how the heck would Bloomberg know? Bloomberg?

We could all come up with £50-80m rumours... that it's written in random papers means sod all... we all know he's going, and other than that it's pin the tail on the donkey.

I didn't say bloomberg know, I said that's what one of their reporters is reporting.

But for what it's worth, I'd be inclined to pay more attention to a bloomberg reporter than some random Spanish outlet or the Daily Mail when it comes to financial information, especially when the reporter in question is well known for getting details of major football/finance deals in the past.

Surely if Barca offer the release clause then it's not up to Liverpool to be interested or not. Unless of course Suarez's advisors made a monumental balls up and allowed a good faith release again.

Providing Barca are offering the full amount up front then Liverpool have no option but to accept. If however, and far more likely, that Barca are wanting to pay in instalments then Liverpool aren't then forced to sell.

Anyway it seems as if an outline value has been agreed and it's just a case of whether Sanchez is involved and structuring payments.
