Giroud may not have the best shots per goal ratio but the reason he gets the chances is because he finds the space and he out-muscles the defenders around him which allow him to score 20+ goals a season which is really what you want from a striker. Doesn't matter how they do it as long as they get the 20+ goals. He can have 1000 shots missed for all I care as long as he gets enough of them in. Strikers are and will always be judged on their goal return, not how many they score per chance created and Giroud scores enough to qualify him for a team like Arsenal.

Not sure if you are for or against Giroud but he does help the team in other ways as well. He had 11 assists last year and created a lot of other chances for the team. He is good at holding the ball up and bringing others into play and I don't think anyone will forget the part he played in Wilshere's goal of the season. Just magical.

Eggman, meet Moses.

He's a student who likes to argue on the internet, he will observe the most popular views and then argue with you until his Ma calls him for his tea.

Talk of Bony to Liverpool is gathering pace. If we're going to settle on a 4-3-3 and Sturridge is the main striker and we stock up on wingers/attacking midfielders then Bony as cover isn't too bad.

The key will be who we bring in as the wingers/attacking mids. Markovic and Lallana is a good start but we need another in my opinion.

Seems we are being linked with making a bid for Griezmann in the papers today as well.

I have seen very loose (unreliable) links to Jackson Martinez, Cuadrado and Benzema too.

Meh. People were basically saying, 'lol Giroud is gash m8', whilst others were saying, 'u wot m8? his goals per game record is x'. I pointed out the flaw in using such a stat, and that those two camps are both wrong/too simplistic. That's engaging with the discussion, rather than arguing for the sake of arguing.

I couldn't care less. I was merely pointing out the pitfalls of arguing with you.

Giroud is like bender mk2. Sure he might score some goals. But down to 10 men that 1 chance you get against barca late in the second half, is Giroud going to bag it?

Absolutely not. He's gak.

It seems Evra to Juventus will be finalised today. :(

The Vidal rumours aren't going away, apparently we're currently considering our opening bid, which will be approximately £32m. If there's even a slight chance we can get him, we should be pulling out all the stops to make it happen.

It's reported that Hummels is open to a move as well, him and Vidal would be fantastic (and admittedly unlikely/very expensive).

Hopefully things will pick up a bit next week when Van Gaal has properly started. In our current position we're certainly going to need the involvement of the manager to land any real marquee signings.

What do you reckon was up with the Evra extension, then? I mean given Manyoo are selling him so soon after that happened, I'd be inclined to assume it was just a contract extension triggered by a contract clause, or something (x number of games played leads to a contract extension, or whatever). I suppose people will argue that maybe Manyoo wanted to get some money for him, but I can't imagine there'd be much, if any, after taking into account loyalty payments and so forth. It seems weird.

It was part of his contract. We had the option to extend his contract by 12 months and we took it. That meant that we had cover for Shaw / would be able to get something for him if we sold him.

The fee being touted is about £2-3m so its not big money but its better than nothing. We will have to spend more than that to replace him but its not fair to expect Evra to be backup to Shaw. Seems like it had been on the cards (Juventus) for quite a while.

What's happening with Campbell at Arsenal? Is he coming back? I'd be happy with Sanchez, Giroud, Campbell and Walcott as options through the middle. Not overly impressed with Debuchy but will reserve judgement. Still think we need a strong DM and then I would be pretty happy overall.

As fez said, we chose to extend it, possibly because we weren't sure if we were getting Shaw at the time, Southampton could have tried to push for more money.

It seems we'll get roughly £2m~ from Juventus, which is ok I guess. I expect he's on a fairly high wage so we might end up saving money in the long run, but we do need cover for Shaw.

At least this means we're in some sort of dialogue with Juventus so should be pushing them for Vidal while we're sorting out Evra. :p

Haha yeah, sneaky suggestion of straight swap of evra for vidal? :p:p

Heard he will be coming back with sir no goal going on loan, which isn't a bad thing really. But wouldn't surprise me if Campbell is again loaned out.

Debuchy?? He's a like for like replacement for Sagna, his stats are very similar to Sagna. I would have liked us to get Aurier but he's inexperienced in the Pl whereas Debuchy has the Pl experience and I think that's why Wenger has gone for him.

Been hearing Remy wants too much money in wages, which I don't think he is worth...80-90k a week is fine I think. Khedira is another whose wages could cause an issue, wants 150k a week. Wonder if Wenger will make a play for Lars Bender. Wouldn't mind him over Khedira.

Think that's a good call with Debuchy vs Aurier. Got to say I'm with you, I'm definitely not sold on him but will reserve judgement until he gets some games with us, hell he might even turn out to be pretty good in our system and with better players around him. He's certainly not looked weak through the world cup.

As for a new DM, not sure who would be on my wishlist. Khedira is good but if he's asking for big wages or Real demand a massively inflated price tag (which they will almost certainly do) then we should turn attentions elsewhere immediately.
