As a rival supporter, I am happy that Suarez is gone.
He was Liverpool's best player, who is at the peak of his powers and Man Utd will have less competition next year.

IMO Liverpool should've fought to keep him - no amount of money can compensate for a lower league position, vs money in the bank (unless they are in serious debt).

And for those who think that Strurridge will fill the void - I doubt it.
Liverpool have definitely taken a step backwards today.

Players come and go, if we can't adapt then we've been poorly managed (whether it be Brendan or someone else)

We've lost better players and went on just fine

Give over it's the end of the world! Just like when we lost Torres and ended up with......

And don't try to be level headed Purdy. We all know you're going to moan like a **** if we don't sign Messi and end up getting Bony.

If we get Bony I'll be really ****ing annoyed, I'm just not that arsed Suarez is going now.

Maybe Markovic will be our new Suarez whilst Bony will be the new Carroll

I suspect a lot of our supporters are going to be disappointed. I can see us signing somebody of Bony's level to cover Sturridge and then maybe adding another winger/attacking mid to the squad, and then going with Sturridge up top on his own with 2 of Sterling, Coutinho, Markovic, Lallana and the potential new guy.

I'm not overly worried about our attacking options. We've got a great young attack and the likes of Sterling and Coutinho are only getting better. If we can spend the Suarez money improving our strength in depth and more importantly our defense, we could be a much better side next season.

As long as you don't get Moyes as your manager all of a sudden I think you'll be okay.

20-25m cover for Sturridge? I'd like to think we'd get better than cover for that

You clearly don't think much of Bony, I do. In a better side Bony would score 20+ goals a season (if he played regularly of course) imo.

And whether any incoming player would simply be cover or a starter will depend on how we set up. My thinking is based around us sticking to a 4-3-3 with Sturridge being the main man through the middle. If that's the case then you can't really go out and get an absolute top class centre forward as neither he or Sturridge will be content on the bench.

This is the hardest part about replacing Suarez. It's not just because he's a genius but because he was so good in so many different roles and formations. He could play up top on his own or in a 2, he could play off the front or wide in a 4-3-3. We were able to keep 2 top class centre fowards happy even if we played a 4-3-3. We're not going to be able to get another player that's both a top class centre forward and also be excellent playing wide or off the front too.

Bony did have a great scoring record prior to joining Swansea and his return was decent in the second half of the season, seems highly rated.

Anyone want to predict where Arsenal will finish next season? I'm going to say 4th-5th if Liverpool sign well. If Liverpool sign bad i'm going to say they will finish 3rd. Difficult to call though as United will be in the mix as well.

Markovic,

Quietly excited about him tbh

Dunno about you but I'm bricking it over the quality of defensive targets we're being linked with, Bertrand? God help us.

Other than twitter has there been any firm links with him? I think we'll end up with Moreno still with Aspas going the other way.

I don't think our defensive problems are as bad as they appeared last season either. I think we just lack a leader at the back and a bit of organisation, which is reportedly why we're after Lovren. We were forever chopping and changing at the back and Mignolet never seemed totally settled in what he was asked to do. A settled back line and somebody with a voice at the back and I think we'll be far better.

And I think there's still going to be a fair bit of activity before the windows shut too. The talk was that we'd spend £50-70m this summer before sales and even if you include Markovic, we've only spent around that much before the Suarez sale. £50-60m on Lovren, Moreneo and Bony (or similar) still leaves us with enough for one more decent signing even before you factor in whatever we might get for Borini, Assaidi, Reina, Aspas and possible Lucas and Agger.
