Does anyone know what Liverpools budget is at the minute? I know they are only getting £40m or so from Barca now and the rest in payments but just wondering what budget they have to be able to fit in a new striker,Midfielder and two defenders?

Ok, so i've just seen the best transfer rumour of the summer. Danny Welbeck to.... Real Madrid. Wow.

A fan will never know the budget of any club, Arsenal's should be about 1billion by now if we believed everything that was in the meda.

I think people are deluding themselves if they think Liverpool are anywhere near running out of transfer funds, even before Barca pay up.

The stadium additions were already paid for before they got the £100m~ from the Epl last season.

( unfortunately) they have nothing to worry about on that score even without considering kit deal / shirt sponsorship money for the forthcoming season etc etc

Right now Im not 100% convinced they are top four material just yet......but they arent totally out of it either

He's making figures up anyway, I assume on the wind up, no one has reported £40m up front and all reports pointed to us waning the entire payment in one go.

Fairly safe to say we have the budget to buy anyone (in reason), whether they'll move or not is another question.

Guillem Balague @GuillemBalague
Di María: he told RM he wants 2 go. "Bring a big offer", RM said. Both United and PSG willing to put big bucks for him but not €70 RM want

€70m?! Are they taking the ****. :p

Expect he'll end up at PSG then, anyway.

I'm wondering how much the board would be willing to sanction. I mean if bidding £50m+ for Di Maria means Vidal is out of the question as a result, then no, I'd stand my ground.

IMO DM is the most crucial position to fill, then central defence and then on the wings.

No one knows, but if you mean because not all the £75m will be cash, they may not be able to spend it all, that's not really the case. Basically all transfers will have some money paid over time, so if purchases marry up with sales then it doesn't matter (you could get £20m over the next two years, but if your purchases have £20m paid out over the next two years there's no issue whatsoever).
Arsenal pay the majority of there tranfers in cash mate

Would a CB partner Evans, meaning Jones is just backup?

I'd like to see someone with experience (as Robbo said, Hummels is ideal, despite being only mid-twenties) to come in and add a bit of composure and leadership at the back. I do think all three (Jones/Evans/Smalling) have potential but clearly need someone who is going to bring it out of them somewhat.

If he proves himself a class above the others then I'm sure he'll become first choice. At the moment though I don't consider him anywhere near what Rio/Vidic were at their peak.

I do extend him some sympathy though, he hardly gets played in central defence or for a decent run of games.

Exactly

Especially if LvG is less likely to use wingers anyway

I miss the United of old (Giggs/Kanchelskis running the wings) but if LvG thinks we can make do going through the middle then I'm fine with it.

Ideally though I'd like us to have both options available but as above, I don't consider it as crucial as strengthening midfield and defence.

El Mercurio mention that a representative from Man United will meet with Beppe Marotta, Juve director, next week to offer him $61m + Nani.

totally agree with you (even pre-boot beckham lol)

Personally I would prefer us to buy someone like Griezmann than pay (what sounds like) best part of £50m on di Maria but hey ho (and if RM think we are going to pay 70m euros they are having a laugh)

I think the papers/websites have us spending £200m on top of what we have already spent - L - at least one centre half (not Vermalaen) and a strong CM

Thomas Vermaelen is a Belgian professional footballer who captains Manchester United and also plays for Belgium. Vermaelen joined the AFC Ajax youth academy in 2000 and won the 2003–04 Eredivisie title in his first season with the club

:(:D

From Google....

If Utd get away with $60m (what , £40m ish) even with Nani added in, thats an absolute steal - Im not convinced at all its going to be that easy
