How can you say he'll 'almost certainly be better'?! Don't say because Carrick is now out for three months, you know what I mean.
Because I don't rate Carrick that highly and I think Herrera is a better player (from what I've seen of him). Carrick is the best of our central midfielders (prior to this season) but that isn't saying much.
Either way, this makes signing another midfielder even more urgent. I think we'd go for Strootman but can't due to his injury, not sure what's happening with Vidal... Schweinsteiger is apparently on the much talked about 'list' so should be a priority now, if Vidal isn't an option.
Probably just rumours but Song is persistently linked too ( hope it is just rumours but you never know) now that he wants out of Barca
Carrick was a crucial player for a few seasons when he first joined, unfortunately for the last two he has been a lot more iffy imo
I don't think Song is as bad as some people make out, but I'm not sure I'd want him.
The only new player linked to us that I've seen today is Varane (via the French press), which would be amazing, but he probably just wants a new contract.

Hope he hits the floor running, the squad is barely top 4 if it plays well all season. New signings are needed for sure.
Saw the Verane link earlier too, but as you say its probably contract renewal time more than anything realistic

Funnily enough the majority of people on here thought Song was great throughout his time at Arsenal, maybe with opinion turning against him a bit in the last 12-18 months. But for 2-3 years loads of Arsenal fans, and plenty of others, were talking about him being brilliant for us.........
He is a joke defensively, he just fouls everyone and can't read the game in the slightest. Offensively he's poop. He has no discipline and was lucky to get away with a ludicrous number of fouls in so many games.

I think he will be much better than Townsend. Am delighted he will get some proper game time.

I have to agree 100% with what has been said here.
Alex Song was a walking yellow card waiting to happen, I lost count of the amount of times he got caught out of position and would end up tugging somebody back in the middle of the field. I'm assuming that signing Alex Song was a part of the Fabregas deal - because there isnt any other reasonable explanation for purchasing such an endless shower of ****e.
Glad that Debuchy is in the bag - should be at least as good as Sagna.
Already this is a good transfer window for us - a holding midfielder and cover at centreback could make it a fantastic one.
