I think he will be much better than Townsend. Am delighted he will get some proper game time.

I'm waiting to see what will happen with Carroll who looks like such a promising player

Maybe, maybe not. I remember watching Townsend play for Orient against us, and he completely tore us apart - was much more affective than Pritchard - but they're two quite different players I suppose.

Pritchard seems to blow hot and cold quite a bit, according to Swinedon fans, but him alongside Forshaw, Odubajo, Judge and Saunders would leave us with one of the most technical midfields in the division... but they're all about 5'4"!!

With other clubs also strengthening isn't that what they should be focused on? Or are Arsenal gonna boss the league now? Unless they've solved their mental deficiencies and actually perform against the top teams they'll get no where near the title. Hardly an outrageous statement.

Remy to Liverpool? A few papers are reporting that we're turning our attentions to Remy because of Swansea and/or Bony's financial demands.

A few months ago I wouldn't have been too disappointed at the prospect of us signing Remy, in fact I think I said I'd like him, but not any more. With Suarez and Sturridge, Remy as 3rd choice that could also play as a wide forward looked ok but without Suarez it doesn't make sense. Remy can't lead the line on his own and therefore one injury to Sturridge would leave us relying on Lambert up top on his own or a Lambert/Remy partnership which just isn't good enough.

We either need an absolute top class 2nd striker that you could play with Sturridge (or Lambert should Sturridge be out) or at the very least somebody a level above Lambert/Remy that can play up top on his own.

Remy can quite easily lead the line alone. 14 goals in a Alan Pardew managed team with next to no creativity is a fairly decent return.

But as a replacement for Suarez? Hmmm. Are Liverpool actually looking for a big name/big money replacement for him?

I'm not doubting his ability but I just don't see him as the type of centre forward we now need. Maybe in a team that's sitting back and hitting sides on the break he can play as a lone striker but I'm not convinced he's somebody that you can build attacks around. Is he somebody that can get hold of the ball and bring other attackers into the game? I don't see it.

As for Suarez replacements. I think we've got to (and have) accept that it's nigh on impossible to replace Suarez like for like or even replace his impact/influence/importance with 1 player. Last season we switched a lot between 1 and 2 up front where as I think this season we'll settle on a 4-3-3 with Sturridge as the main centre forward. With that in mind I think we'll see the money from Suarez being spread between decent cover for Sturridge and bulking up the squad, particularly the attacking midfield and wing areas.

That's why I'm not against us signing somebody like Bony. With the likes of Sterling, Coutinho, Markovic, Lallana and possibly 1 more addition, we've got enough creativity and attacking threat from midfield and wide areas to get away with just having a target man/penalty box striker as our only striker. It wouldn't be that dissimilar to Arsenal with Giroud, only with him being our 2nd choice rather than first and only choice up front.

Do you Liverpool fans not rate Cavani? Seems PSG have been trying to offload him for a while now, he's not bad. Won't be cheap though.

Aside from him, I don't think there's a top class striker available (depending whether you rate him or not).

You're better off just playing with Sturridge and then having the creative guys behind, it should work. Remy might be good cover.

I assume Remy is merely an upgrade on Borini. Borini out for £10m and Remy in for £8m.

Sturridge, Remy, Lambert and then one more to come in?

That would make much more sense. Remy, like Borini, could play wide of a 3 if needed and wouldn't be a bad 3rd choice or partner for Sturridge if we played 2 up front.

The problem with signing somebody like Cavani or any other top class striker is how you keep him and Sturridge both happy.

I mentioned before that we don't just need to replace Suarez's ability but his versatility. When available both Sturridge and Suarez were always in the side yet in all the games they played together, we probably only played with them both up front 50% of the time. Suarez would either play off the front or wide in a 4-3-3.

If we signed somebody like Cavani we'd have to play with 2 up front nearly every game and I don't think Rodgers wants to.

In an ideal world we need to find another top class striker that can both play through the middle (on his own or in a 2) but also off the front and/or as a wide forward. If we can't do that then the priority should be somebody that can play through the middle on his own but is also happy playing 2nd fiddle to/competing with Sturridge.

Yeah, shame he just wanted to live in London ;)

Rodgers: ‘That (Sanchez) was one where geography dictated where he wanted to go, simple as that. If anything, it’s been other way (and Liverpool are an attraction). '

'Lots of players are really impressed by what we are doing as club and really excited about coming to Liverpool.'

I watched a lot of Cavani at Napoli, for me he was the best centre forwrd in the world when he was there. Since he moved to P$G i dont think he has had any confidence in his game and that reflects on his performances.

Think a fair price for him now would be £30 million - £35 million seeing as he has had no form in the last year and P$G want to offload him.
