I've only ever watched him at the WC so wouldn't be terribly excited at the thought of throwing everything at him, although anything after Suarez is a downgrade

How odd, all the news about Vidal to United and lucas is adamant nothing is happening.

Now it's gone quiet he's folded like a cheap deckchair.

Something I'm not privy to here? :D

Me just casually waiting for the Vidal news on my cheap deck chair!

If we are in for Remy then I think we have to get another striker too. I just don't see Remy as a front line striker for us, he can play alongside Sturridge or wide but I just don't see him playing in place of him.

Yup and I can't see who we would get cavani too much in wages really didn't impress me in wc either, wouldn't mind shaqri but isn't and out and out striker anywau

I wonder why he didn't take the #3 shirt.

JM reckons our spending is over so it must be either Lukaku or Bamford joining Costa & Torres up front.
I'd obviously prefer Lukaku but I don't think he's got the bottle for a fight, going by what he's said he just wants to be first choice somewhere whereas Bamford has said he's happy to be 3rd choice and learn from those ahead of him and push for a 1st team place.

Edit: Just read that the #5 shirt at LB is a Brazilian thing so as both were available he chose 5.

What's Evans said?

He's told some people that Liverpool are working on an 'incredible' transfer, but has sworn them to secrecy...

This is asked in all seriousness - are you worried? Even with the purchases of Shaw and Herrera, it's definitely arguable that your squad is weaker or no better than last year. I mean, those are two good signings (probably) but Shaw won't be an improvement on Evra straight away, whilst Herrera is an unknown quantity and you've lost or are losing Vidic/Ferdinand/Evra... and that's before considering the impact of Carrick being out for a few months.

So the midfield has probably improved, but the Carrick injury takes some of the gloss off that, then the defence has got worse. People may not love Ferdinand and Vidic, and they may not have been at the height of their powers... but their experience had to be important, and Vidic played 25 league games (34 overall) whilst Ferdinand played 14 league games (23 overall), so they were significant parts of last year's team.

Obviously the press has linked you with Hummels, Vidal, et al... but it must be worrying that there haven't been more signings, considering Arsenal have already significantly improved, Chelsea might be done for this window, Liverpool have signed a bunch of players, Citeh have already improved/may be done for this window, etc?

Of course we're worried. The manager will be a huge improvement but we need the quality on the pitch too.

If we don't sign anyone else then we're going to struggle to get top 4 (it's pretty unlikely).

I'm sure we will though.

Anything of substance verifiably from him? Otherwise that's like me saying I was chatting to my mate Henry Winter and he said x, but I'm not allowed to say anything/it's a big secret. It's basically an ~ITK~ baseless rumour, no?

Not particularly, but he's quite well connected I believe. Could be on the wind up.

I meant the person that's said what he said :p. I know who Tony Evans is... but the fact he's well connected is meaningless, if it's just someone else saying what he said. It's like me saying I was chatting to my mate Brendan Rodgers and claiming I know about their transfer dealings... the fact he's well connected is meaningless if I don't know him/haven't talked to him :p.

I believe it originated from a guy called Andrew Heaton (I don't know who he is). Evans replied to him on Twitter so there's definitely a connection, but what he told him (if he told him anything) remains to be seen.

People seem to be under the impression it's Di Maria or James Rodriguez.

Last year, all united fans said you had a championship winning squad, and it was all Moyes fault. Crazy mofo's! :p

We did... Pretty much everyone on here thought we'd get top four or better. If it wasn't for the Moyes disaster we probably would have done.

The squad has been the biggest problem for a while. It's ageing and thin..

Got some decent attackers though. Just whack 5 at the back like Holland did this WC i suppose..

He's on a podcast called The Anfield Wrap and has long standing connections to the club, personally I would take it with a pinch of salt (especially given his last transfer in rumors are still awaitng to come to fruition - talking to Barca I think it was). We do have over 100million to spend though, given the Suarez cash has yet to be spent and with the rumors of Borini out and a few others..

Its not James Rodriguez, he ruled himself out of ever going to the premiership. It could be Di Maria I suppose 1+1=3 and all that with Real wanting to offload to raise the cash for Rodriguez. But would Di Maria be 'incredible'? Not for me. Incredible would be Reus, Muller, Neymar, Zlatan. Speaking of Real, I wouldnt mind Isco if they raising cash :D
