*** The Official Playstation 4 (PS4) Thread ***

The fan ramps up but I don't find it overly bad and I hate noise. Did you have them in a well ventilated area ?

My girlfriend thinks I'm nuts.

The PS4 was in a well ventilated area, horizontal, with no dust build up (I'd blow it down every day with one of those giotto rocket blowers lol)

I appreciate noise is subjective as people have different hearing, sit different distances away, different room acoustics, background noise and obviously tolerance levels.

During the day I'd never hear it as the volume of the speakers would drown it out, but in the evening when volume was low I could hear it.

This isn't the first time I've gone through several exchanges of something, if it's not consoles, it's tvs for backlight bleed, clouding etc :D

I can definitely hear it in the evening as well but I have just learnt to ignore it. Just been playing Watchdogs and it chuffs away.

Do you have an Xbox one they are almost completely silent. MS really got the cooling right with the One.

Yeah I have an xbox one.

That is very quiet, I can hear buzzing from the psu but that's only if I mute the tv and go right up to it (so complete non issue).

What I find with the xbox one is that the noise never changes, literally I could play for hours and the noise remains the same.

To be honest I'd have preferred to have an external psu with the ps4 if that would reduce noise.

I'm an idiot really as I'll end up buying another ps4 at the weekend as last of us is out then and I never played it on the ps3.

What's even worse is on my pc rig I purposely bought delta fans and the noise of them at full pelt is something else.

Just an observation really from my experience and that of people I know where all with 1 have some sort of issue with the sticks but 2's seem to be OK.

But then there's people like Captain Planet saying they have wear on both types so it perhaps is just coincidence. On my pads though there is a definite difference in the type of rubber between the two.

Please explain, ta:)

I have had one replacement pad so far and I bought a spare a couple of months back, only used the replacement pad so far but can't tell if it's wearing yet, it might of a little.

Do you mean serial numbers starting 1 and 2 should be different?

Thanks

No issues with noise on my PS4. It does run louder than my slim PS3 does but it's not really any more noticeable. My 360 probably isn't as loud but the actual noise the fan makes means it's far more intrusive.

It is thought that the serial 2 pads might be manufactured with a different rubber coating to the analogue sticks apparently.

Both mines are serial number 1's and have degraded away to almost nothing :(

I have a 1 and a 2, both get equal amounts of usage since release (one charges while I use one till it runs out then swap), while none have degraded completely and fell apart, both have smoothed out where I usually hold them on the tops of the thumbsticks and on the sides.

Serial Number 1

Serial Number 2

Serial Number 2 (Never used but for comparison plus <3 red :p)

Serial number 2 defo isn't as bad as 1, but it's defo smoother than it used to be.

Got the xbox one thumb sticks fitted, there a huge improvement, been slightly longer it seems to have shifted my hands slightly improving where my fingers are placed on the triggers.

Are they really easy to fit? I.e not much chance of the controller not going back together properly?

I took a PS3 pad apart once and clumsily nearly dropped it...but during the process lost the spring for the trigger! lol.

Rubber is coming off on mine and I don't like thos gribs as they are too big.

Where you get the sticks, How did you fit the stick surely there not a simple swap

There are some vids on how-to. I think earlier in this thread.

If my sticks start peeling I will look in to it perhaps. But with warranty I think I'd rather just send it back and let Sony sort it out. No peeling yet but I'd hope not since I've only had it since Saturday :)

My PS4 is slightly bent in the middle, only two of the feet touch at any point and it tips if you move it. It's only a mm or two but the bottom of the PS4 touches the ground in the middle. No idea how it happened as it went from argos to my shelf and has been there ever since. Lucky I got 'any circumstance' insurance with it so I should be able to swap it over. I wouldn't bother but it makes a subtle but nasty grinding sound when switched on. :(

TL: DR: How much of a ballache is it to reinstall games, save points etc to a new console?
