My New Car

Had mine 2 weeks. Tried a few other cars and this was the only thing that made me remember why I used to enjoy driving, compared to driving various boring sensible family cars lately.

One thing to remember is this is a good chunk cheaper each month on PPI than the GTI, despite being quicker, 4WD and well specced.

It's not everyone's kettle of fish but I love the way it's almost bipolar, effortless to drive and comfortable for when I've got the kids in it, stick it in race mode and it comes to life for when it's just me.

Averaging an on board claimed 34 mpg on my run to work. It's probably closer to 30 but it's easily as good on fuel as the Mrs' 1.6 Zafira and about a million times more fun.

I like how everyones suggestions for what they would've bought instead have 2 less doors, well thought out those alternatives eh?

yup..no good if you want to put the seats down to carry some stuff for a mate

or get a buggy and stuff in the boot

thats the beauty of the golf R..or the s3 even..or even the amg a class if you want to spend really serious money

its fast but still practical..they can be a family hatch carry a family of 4.. and you can have fun when you want, best of both worlds

you could aven say the same about the 135...but not sure if it can seat 4 adults comfortably..which you can in the golf

Cant believe how many people are so quick to say "I wouldnt, who would, not worth, I'd rather" etc etc etc

The guy has worked his ass off and bought something he is proud of and likes, that is all that matters.

OP - Lovely car and congrats, Enjoy :-)

Well it's definitely good to have a chat about what you would prefer to do with that kinda money, after all it's a motoring forum.

What I don't like seeing is people telling the OP that they have made the wrong choice or what they have done doesn't 'make sense' - only the OP knows the full situation and all the considerations!!

What is the service schedule and running costs like on those !! ;)

Service schedule and general servicing costs are not that bad, even insurance is reasonable.

Petrol and brake discs on the other hand

I like the Golf R, its something I looked at (briefly) before getting a C63. The two are not comparable at all.

Cars are about personal opinion, it would be a very dull world if we all liked the same.
