I'm not afraid to admit I like the Gaming Evolved app, even if the overlay works in none of the games I play.
I just fired up Witcher 2 though with optimized settings which were less than the game set and I only get 25-30 FPS, bit disappointed in that really.

Just played BF4 for an hour with Mantle - it really is no different whatsoever to what my 780 was in BF4. The only thing I will say is the frame rate felt marginally more consistent and the minimums were not quite as low as the 780 but when you're talking about minimums of 80 ish at worst on the 780... bumping those to say 90 isn't a game changer. It's nice but I wouldn't write home about it. I wasn't monitoring frame rates but I'm at the point now where in BF4 I can feel anything below 80 ishand I didn't get that on Mantle which shows me the minimums are better. Though to be fair it is extremely rare on the 780 that I would actually get a perceptible frame rate drop but I knew when I did.
Obviously I haven't tried playing in D3D on the 290 (nor will I) but as a comparison between nVidia single card on D3D and AMD single card on Mantle the difference was somewhere between minuscule and zero.
I didn't buy this card to get uber Mantle performance anyway - it was purely for a new toy so I'm not disappointed or anything. Mantle ran nicely, no complaints about it whatsoever... it's just not perceivably different to D3D on the 780 for me.
I'd imagine it's you lads on multi-GPU that really feel the difference.
It's that consistent that I talked about, you also point out that yourself feel the frame rate drop that is great because that's how I used to feel when playing on DirectX.
Now sure dropping from 90fps to 80 fps is going to be very little, but you fully understand were am coming from when you have frame rate in the 180fps and dropping down to say 160fps or 100fps and backup again.
Mantle you just simply down feel the change, directx on the other hand you do.

BF4 290 Mantle>custom bios 780 shocker.![]()

I really don't know how you've read my post and came to the conclusion that I agree with what you were saying originally because I don't. Obviously I can't speak for multi-GPU but as I said above there is no real difference to me.
Most people aren't going to notice a drop to 80 FPS anyway but I do because I'm ultra sensitive to it. As I say it's extremely rare that happened on my 780 anyway. The point was that I noticed the increase in frame rate only at the very rare times the 780 would drop to 80 ish. Other than that D3D on nVidia is identical to Mantle on the 290.
I think if you notice a smoothness increase on single GPU with a good CPU then you've been on the special sauce. Bearing in mind I was LOOKING for improvements and still didn't really find any as well.
The best thing I can say about Mantle from my view is that I had no problems with it and it ran nicely. I would have been extremely disappointed had I swapped just for it though. Luckily I didn't.![]()

I never noticed anything. My change from a 780>290 caused nothing but aggro for me.
Though, also never noticed i was gaming on a 750ti coming from a 290 either.
Well you did say you do feel the frame drops on DirectX with 780 so therefore what I been saying all along
"Though to be fair it is extremely rare on the 780 that I would actually get a perceptible frame rate drop but I knew when I did."
For every Rusty there are many who feel the complete opposite and have noticed a nice difference moving from a 780 DX to a 290 in Mantle. Depends how much you notice these things i guess. Some will notice it, some won't. The figures always speak for themselves though.![]()

. D3D generally doesn't do too well with CF/SLI smoothness so I imagine it is night and day in that situation.Rusty, how much outrage would there have been if you mentioned you felt no/very little difference if you had swapped from a 290 to a 780? Shank's would have been all over you![]()
I'm extremely sensitive to any hitching, lagging, low FPS, tearing, input lag etc etc. If people are noticing differences when moving like I did from a 780 to a 290 with a good CPU then I can only surmise based on my own experience that they either have something wrong with their PC or they are getting the placebo effect.
Again, bearing in mind this is single card vs single card with an overclocked i7. I expect more in different scenarios.
