Shrinking Chocolate

With obesity levels at record highs maybe it's a good thing that Mars bars are smaller than they used to be?

Yes, YES!

That's why the confectionery manufacturers are doing it, for our health!

Philanthropists, eh...

Anyone know how big Wagon Wheels are nowadays ? I used to love them as a kid because they were the size of my face, nom nom nom. But I've never had one in at least 25 years. Have they shrunk too ?

Inflation through packet sizes. It's poorly accounted for in the inflation measurement process, particularly in processed goods. Stealthy. Means our wages are falling faster in real terms than the government admits.

Nah, the OP's got a point. Take Cadbury's crème eggs now for example and compare with 25 years ago. Definitely shrunken in size, and yet about 3x the price.

Actually I think it is making it worse ... they have now shrunk beyond the point which triggers people to say - these are tiny now, I can get away with one or two more.

Its due to the fact that if they kept the same large sizes then a chocolate bar would cost over £1 and people wouldn't pay it. As it is, the size shrinks and the price increases only a little bit which people prefer.

The ultimate urine extraction is Wagon Wheels, you can actually see through the chocolate on them now!!

I don't think it's even real chocolate. It's a chocolate flavoured coating.

They've taken away the problem of what you do with your last Rolo. They've kept it.

As has been said, multipacks are often significantly smaller than the standalone packs.

It can also vary from retailer to retailer; some retailers (specifically places like Nisa, Poundland etc) will sell packs of sweets, biscuits and other groceries that aren't the same as those available from the usual supermarkets so you think you're getting a good deal for a packet of Chocolate Digestives but in reality you're just paying less for...less.

Have to say I'm guilty of this. Back in the day I'd have one twix or something as a treat, but now I sometimes get two of something just because of how unsatisfying one is these days.
