Shrinking Chocolate

Cadburys creme eggs, are like a 3rd smaller than they were when I was a kid.

I raised that point as well, but someone seems to disagree with us :( Yes there is inflation, but you'll find that 60p vs 20p over 25 year is above inflation. Plus, the eggs have become smaller, nothing to do with hand size.

Nah, the OP's got a point. Take Cadbury's crème eggs now for example and compare with 25 years ago. Definitely shrunken in size, and yet about 3x the price.

Bigger hands + inflation (not of hands)

Packets are filled with air to stop the contents from getting squashed and your crisps getting broken. I've experienced this with cheaper brand crisps, they don't fill enough air to maximise shipping density and more of your crisps end up broken. They're not "replacing" food with air, they're just using air for protection, believe me that anyone would love to have more product density during shipping.

They have become smaller, even I've noticed this since school. Mars bars are significantly smaller than they were just 5 or 6 years ago. The same goes for many other chocolate bars, as well as packets of crisps being about 10 grams lighter but having the same size packets.

Seems to be happening over food generally - even when the price doesn't go up quantities go down.

For instance one of the ready meals I have from time to time has gone from 450gram to 375gram, slapped with a "new improved recipe" sticker (its exactly the same just a little less amount) and using slightly cheaper looking packaging with no change to price.

(Its nothing new, noticed it happening more often than normal from about 2008 onwards though).

Things definitely feel like they are shrinking. Penguins, Monster Munch etc. On the other hand, I can't help wishing they'd bring out a four-finger Kitkat Chunky, but that might be a bit greedy :-D.

Completely unrelated to chocolate but I've noticed this happening to branded canned tuna as well, such as princes and john west. The supermarkets own branded stuff seems to be unaffected by this change.

Everything has got smaller yet they are charging more. You go aboard and Cadburys chocolate bars etc the size have stayed the same. Again rip off Britain.

They do it because they can get away with it.

Also the taste of things like mars and twix are much blander than they were years back... less quality ingredients and less sugar for starters.
