With the peeling rubber, it's clearly a design fault at the point of purchase so in theory you could have 6 years of warranty replacement until they get it fixed. Or whatever the EU directive says.

If everyone with peeling rubber sticks returned the whole console we could have a bust Sony on our hands and no PS5 :D ;) Why don't shops/Sony just fix or replace the naff controllers?

I didn't because I'm within my warranty period and have paid money for a product free of defects.

I didn't use the pad in a manner which would exacerbate the problem and shouldn't have to buy covers manufactured by a third party to stop an inherent fault becoming an issue.

I'm simply exercising my rights as a consumer.

Sure, and what do you think will happen when you get the next one back? Yup, it will do it again.

Exercising your rights as a consumer is fine, but so is applying some basic common sense to what is clearly a repeating problem which is not going anywhere in the immediate future. All you are doing is causing yourself inconvenience, for the sake of "principle" and a measly £3 spent on covers which actually improve the tactile feeling. Makes zero sense imo. :)

It caused me next to no inconvenience at all and if it does it again it can go back again.

As for the covers, I'd rather not use them because I like the height and feel of the sticks as they are.

Once the warranty is up or the only option is to return the pad to Sony then I'll open it up and fit the Xbox sticks but until then they can keep supplying me with a working product.

I realise that to some I might be coming across as a bit of a knob taking this stance but personally I think that everyone should do the same otherwise there is no incentive for companies to carry out sufficient quality testing when the average punter will accept a substandard product anyway. :)

my sticks are still fine, touchwood, and i bought my console on boxing day last year. heres hoping to another year of hassle free controller ownership :p

knowing my luck they'll probably start peeling now -_-

I agree I bought the stick covers and don't like it and prefer the height and feel of the original sticks....

I have gone through 5 controllers since launch because of the rubber breaking on them

My PS3 (bought 1 year after launch) was still fine when I sold it last year,

Just out of interest, why did you (and others with this issue) not put a cover on it? This has been a known issue for months and months... :)

tbh, because I don't play it that much and have had it 9 months before any real signs of wear. I don't really plan on getting any for my blue controller. If they replace it hassle free I'll just do the same again if it reoccurs.

So the answer is probably a combination of arrogance, stubbornness and laziness :)

Shame golf club is out a week ahead in America, but I do have Metro coming this weekend and other priorities to bide the time. I was considering getting a US account and getting it that way, but my OCD will not be able to cope. Everything has to be on the same PSN account!

i never bought covers for my DS4 because I used them with the DS3 last time round and I didn't like them, they would fall off very easily mid game.

telling people to buy covers isn't a perfect fix, a lot of people don't like the covers.

sending them back to sony or buying additional thumbsticks to fix it yourself is the better solution for me.
