Am I right in thinking that buffs from gems/gear is done as a multiplier?

i.e. 100% dmg increase to resource generators from Depth Diggers is x2, not +100%? and 25% increase to your primary skill dmg from a leg gem is 25% of your current overall value, not +25% to something that deals (e.g.) 490% already?

Deciding whether to ditch a +280 Primary Stat gem or not you see....

Really enjoyed playing last night, although switching between my Monk and WD at similar gear and stat levels is still like chalk and cheese, Monk squishes quite fast still.

First time I get a vault I reckon I'll be having a gem upgrading frenzy....

There's 3 categories (I think), elite damage, elemental damage (includes +% pet damage), and skill damage.

Things within a category are added together, the categories themselves are multiplicative with the other two.

People were exploiting it yesterday as gobs always spawned in Halls of Agony level 2 so blizz hotfixed it overnight. I've been through about 20 goblins today with no vault spawn.

Yeah you should always upgrade the key IMO if you kill the rift guardian in time. This is because even if the next difficulty is too much once the timer expires the mobs all vanish and the rift guardian spawns again. Once you kill him you get your normal legendaries and then you'll get another upgrade level on a gem.

You still get to kill the Rift Guardian if the timer runs out? Well I didn't expect that. Makes it sound too easy :p

3. In order to have a 100% chance to upgrade a gem a level, your grift level must be +10 levels over your current gem level.

7. There is an exception to point 6. As long as your gem level is lower than your grift level you will never drop below 60% chance to upgrade.
Nice post! :) Above points are especially useful to know. Think I ran a level 21 grift at one point yesterday so I'm covered for a while and means I don't have to up my game on grift levels *too much* to fully upgrade a gem without horrible chances.

Like a few others. Time to decide whether I want to drop the critical hit damage roll on a ring to use this gem! (I've got the 20% damage after an elite one)

The rift guardian spawns as soon as the timer is up, it only lets up upgrade gems though you need to complete it before the timer to upgrade the keystone.

Most people seem to be just starting them at lower levels and working up slowly so they can get 4-5 greater rifts in before they have to start again. The quicker you complete them the higher level keystone it will give you.

what's a good monk 2.1 build now then? do the changes make playing the monk fun again? i parked my monk after ROS as it sucked badly, it was my main :( i've not played him since so no gear and my build is probably a TR build, any advice on what to shoot for now?

There are good few builds which are viable now. I can steam roll T6 as Holy, Fire, Cold or Lightning.

Most monks seem to be opting for the Sunwoko set and going Holy damage, which is a 2 handed setup. It's very powerful in terms of both damage and defense. In terms of damage I'd say Holy beats them all, but Fire, Cold and Lightning are all perfectly viable too; you just might be limited to say GR33 instead of GR35 or GR36.

If you're just starting out again then aim for Sunwoko as it's the faster to gear for at a basic level. You need either all 4 pieces or 3 and a RROG. You'll also want a daibo, preferably a Flying Dragon but any will do for the interim. Just gamble for all the pieces at Kadala, it shouldn't take too long.

Yeah seems like they want you to be able to push your gem levels to roughly the level you can clear at, makes sense :)

Looking forward to get a few rank 25 gems, should really help out, annoying how I now have to decide if I want to give crit rate on my already badly rolled rings lol.

Attempted a GR31, man that was hard! Getting 2 floors consisting of 90% coward/fleeing mobs didn't help either, especially both being arreat crater maps where I kept having to double back on myself and wasting a couple of minutes just running around due to dea ends :/ Failed it by 2 minutes or so. Doable I think, just need more luck with monster and few gear upgrades!

It annoys me if I've got Angels to contend with. Fighting a losing battle as you edge towards your greater rift limit. :D

Me and a friend did level 28 last night nice and comfortably. Level 29... was going well and then we got Zoltan as the rift guardian. He did A LOT of damage then my gear broke and just missed out killing him on time. If I had repaired prior to starting level 29 it would have been a kill quite comfortably. Annoying.

Think 29/30 is my limit at the mo. Going to try a 2H Jade build I think. I'm close to giving up on pet build. I just can't get a MoJ... probably looking north of 20k shards.

I got to 70 on my WD 6 days ago, Had 2 drop in that time along with a SMK, TMF and a rubbish SoJ.

Really dunno where to take my char now, any ideas?

trying to roll CHD on the Blackthorne Cross but after spending 30 mill on gems and using all of them upgrading it still didn't roll :((

Pretty ncie items for only a few days play, MOJ, Tall mans, SMK, Serpent are all best in slot.

I would recommend you get 3 piece Aughilds (brace, chest, shoulders). Brace I would aim for crit, physical damage, int, vit. Chest I would go with Int, vit, all resist, 15% fetish damage/Zombie dogs, and something similar for the shoulders.

Those 3 should give you a decent bump in damage/toughness and you should be on your way to easily taking on T3.

Also since you have SMK I would drop grave injustice for a dog skills, fierce loyalty is great for some extra movement speed and ups your big dogs damage.
