ISIS and Islamic militants - discussion

The latest hostage, it looks like he's already been kidnapped by ISIS and escaped and now recaptured if that's what his wiki ref is trying to say.

This hostage looks very calm and relaxed.

I don't think Jihadi John's got him. Maybe it's another, slightly more moderate group who are treating him slightly better and not doing mock executions every five minutes.

It seems like he's going to do a series of videos, so he may be quietly confident that an execution is not imminent.

How many UK/US hostages are they known to hold now?
This sudden shift in propaganda is as if they are running out of bargaining chips (for want of a better phrase) and want to keep hold of them.

Yep, if the last two hostages are this guy and Alan Henning, I'd hope they had a far better chance than the others. There is just nothing to gain from killing these if there are no more. If there are no hostages, then the air strikes will not have to concern themselves with collateral damage too much.

I think I read 30 are missing so presumed hostages. Might be just 'Brits' though, this could be the last time I ever say, 'Brits'.

Have the US bombed the Syrian army...sorry I mean ISIS into oblivion yet? ;)

It'll wind up a back door coup d'etat just you all watch, now that the west is involved it won't long before ISIS are pushing Assad's regime back and cutting his head off.

I want them gone just as much as you but I can never accept the death of innocent people in the process bud.

Syrian rebel fighters say Obama's air strikes won't deter Islamic State
Isis fighters 'know where to hide' from attack from the air and only 'boots on the ground' will defeat the insurgents, they say

"I believe most of the casualties will be civilian," said Abu Mohammed, 33, a shopkeeper. "The majority will be from Raqqa and very few from Isis. Many of our young men in the city have joined Isis either because of fear or because of the wages they give, which is $400 (£246) per month. This is a very good salary for us here."

Sorry but if you join ISIS then you aren't a civilian.

Boots on the ground is what is needed to target ISIS
Bombs will kill ISIS and whoever is next to them too

Do the Brits and Yanks want to endanger their own soldiers lives to get rid of ISIS ?
