Curved screens? Maybe. Ultra wide screens? Definitely not.
I agree. People initially said 16:9 widescreen monitors were a fad and now virtually all monitors on the planet use that aspect ratio.
Cinemas have used 21:9 for decades and as TV's/monitors get larger I think that ratio will start to make a lot more sense especially for gaming and media. Even productivity-wise 21:9 is like having two 4:3 monitors on one screen when running 2 apps at a time so it's fantastic from that point of view as well.
The future is 21:9 as far as I can see. I think curved might actually make sense for a computer monitor you sit a couple of feet away from. Plus typically only one person will view a computer monitor at a time so you can make sure you're in the sweet spot bang in the middle.
I don't see curved widescreen televisions taking off primarily because more folks like to wall mount them and when you do that with a curved panel it just looks plain weird and unsightly. My missus would definitely never agree to it

So in summary. 21:9 will be the standard for TV's and monitors in future IMO. Curved monitors used by an individual sat at a computer desk could definitely have potential but with larger televisions in your lounge I'm less convinced. I've seen curved televisions in shops and wasn't convinced so I'd need to sit down at a desk with a curved monitor to make a proper call on it though.
