So Ive been scammed on Gumtree... what are my options?

Someone who phoned up earlier in the thread asked if they could come and see the items and he said he'd call them back as he was driving. So it's possibly just used to gain confidence i.e. it must be legit or else he'd hardly say 'available for collection', type thing. He's maybe hoping for someone to be desperate for the items and ask if he could post them.

Maybe so! It's hard to tell as we don't know if he was driving or not or whether he was on to what was happening.

Not necessarily! I've been in a train station, and the person I was speaking to on the phone didn't believe me because they couldn't hear any ambient sound. It was because my phone had ambient noise cancellation. :p

if you don't get it resolved then you could still flood/spam his phone number/e-mail address

something like this guy did with the complete work's of Shakespear:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technolo...umtree-fraud-entire-works-of-Shakespeare.html

obviously there are also several online services that will allow you to do similar - such as flooding text messages (use a few over several days in case he starts blocking the number(s)) and spam e-mails - sties that will subscribe you automatically to a whole bunch of mailing lists (ostensibly for testing purposes)

Perhaps not the sort of thing that can or should be linked to on here but for £400 you should probably cause him some hassle.

Oh wow that's amusing. I'm tempted to wind a friend up with that.

When I was at school and had a contract with Orange (300 texts) I tried to copy and paste a quote from a book we were studying, to send to my mate. However I failed spectacularly and pasted the entire book, didn't notice, and sent it.

Their phone was apparently un-usable after that, if they turned it on with the sim in it would just freeze.

It translated to something like a bill of £300, and I had to get Mum on the phone to Orange to explain what had happened, and they refunded the out-of-contract charges.

We both had HTC Touch Diamonds. I miss that old phone... :p (He was quite well off, his one broke, it got replaced, then he had the original one repaired and gave it to me as a present. What a guy... :D)

So I gave him until 5 to either refund or send full tracking details. He said ok thanks...that was 2 hours ago. It is now 4:55 and nothing.. so I guess it's time to get police involved.

Sucks to be him if he doesn't have the money anymore and never had the item to begin with.

Haha :D

What would be the best way to go about it? Report it at my local police station or phone up his local one which would be either Durham police or Thames Valley ?

Thanks

The money is gone and there is no getting it back. Gumtree is about face-to-face transactions.

even if I never get the money back.. I cannot have someone get away with doing that to people. I believe I have enough information on him to easily have him tracked down by the police. If something is illegal it should be dealt with no matter what. I just want to know the most efficient way of doing things as I assume the met cant do anything to someone living in durham or buckinghamshire
