ISIS and Islamic militants - discussion

Seems that British people and institutions challenging Islamic State is a proxy for anti-Muslim bigotry

not what it says

The Sun’s ‘Unite against Isis’ campaign is a proxy for anti-Muslim bigotry.

you there, Muslim – bleary eyed, sipping your coffee, who thought the activities of a militant group thousands of miles away had nothing to do with you – are you standing up to extremism right now? Is your Islam “British”? If not, then you are Part of the Problem

Sounds very much like these forums :p

ISIS have declared an Islamic country - ergo , if they attack a NATO member then turkey can invoke article 5 , and all 28 nations will be obliged to respond in defence of a member state.

This is correct, NATO concluded after 9/11 that a terrorist attack is still an attack and that the rules still apply (by the time this ruling had been decided upon the US had already taken out the Taliban so NATO had no work to do, but the ruling was meant more as a what to do if this happens in the future ruling).

I think they are Pussy'ing about with ISIS. It should be a war of annihilation they should kettle them in and then just slowly and methodically wipe them all out.

I agree,I think this "Hunt for Isis" is going to be a never ending one though..they will keep on killing US & UK citizens and we will still be faffing about dropping bombs..they need to send troops in.

Same stuff used to happen here in blighty after a game of football. Every week.

DAMN THOSE BRITISH TERRORISTS!

True back in early 90s a sub-set of my local town supporters went on a rampage through Exeter city center after losing a match - did close to a million quids worth of damage and a few fans from both side ended up in hospital after a brawl broke out.

Ok a quick re-cap, Iraq and Iran go to war, UK provide both sides with weapons, the US supports Iraq with aid, weapons etc. At this point both are happy to deal with Saddam Hussain, although few years later an embargo is placed on the selling of such items.

Moving forward, Hussain who has a large army and weapons gets a bit power hungry and the Gulf war ensues. Saudi's obviously not happy, US and UK neither short war and he's back in check.

Skip forward again and al-Qaeda have risen up and attacked but somehow a war with Iraq is started as they were supposed to have WMDs..Saddam is toppled and a government put in place, years of sectarianism should be ended with democracy.

Roll on to today, the government has lost control and the strongest Sunni faction have emerged looking at taking control of the country and whatever else might be up for grabs in Syria. US start air strikes, followed by UK.

With that in mind, I have to wonder why there is so much interest as to what happens in this country / region. It's not as if anyone is lining up to go free Tibet from China, or irradicate Boko Haram..the child abducting killers..although the #BringBackOurGirls campaign was moving.

Get out and stay out would be my stance, but it's too late for that, so I guess it's the war method again, never know it might work this time!
