NEST thermostats

Depending on what you've got already no cable may be necessary, I'd expect the fitter to have whatever is necessary tbh.

Do you know where you want everything? What's there now?

I'm getting a Nest fitted with my new boiler next week. I'll provide the Nest for the installer to fit, but what cable should I get?

Thanks

I recently had mine installed very recently and I provided the NEST. The installer brought everything needed including extra cable.

was really tempted by this but unfortunately for my house it would be pointless (3 floors thermostat at the bottom where we never go) looks for a good alternative with trv's so i can alter per room from my phone though :D

Hmmm, so I had my new boiler and Nest installed today.

Thankfully, all went well, the heating kicks in when the Nest target temp is raised etc so I'm a happy man.

But now I'm trying to set schedules and I'm a little confused. If I schedule the heating to come on at 05:30 with a target temp of 24 degrees, when will it turn off?

Cheers

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say when the house reaches 24 degrees.

Yeah, I see your point, but when the house reaches it's target temp, the heating turns off. The house then begins to cool down, so then what? Does the heating only come back on if I have another schedule set?

If the heating comes on at 05:30, reaches its target temp within 30 mins, but I don't leave the house for another hour or two, I'll be without heating for a while.

It will just learn a schedule if you use the nest to adjust the temperature when it is too warm or cold.

But if you really want to give it a schedule to start with the temp settings you set will remain in place until the next one is reached.

Finally you only need to set temps for when you need them, i.e. when you get out of bed. The nest will learn how long it takes for your system to reach temps and thus begin somewhat earlier.

I'm sorry, but why use Nest when Tado seems much simpler and removes the hassle of adjusting the heating and have the advantage of a wireless thermostat which you leave wherever and not have to worry about moving the wall 'stat? Not to mention it knows when you're actually in the house or out the house through geolocation on your phone.

I'm a fan of the look of the thing but otherwise it just seems pretty busy for something thats mean't to make life easier.

Kinda pointless when I'm at work but the wife is at home.

If it does this (I don't think it does? Apart from using IFTTT?) then both of you can have the app installed... But the Nest works by sensing when you are in the house and are away.

Does the same thing no? The tado is basically the same price as the nest if you get an engineer to install the nest.

Surely then it is not a comparable price?

Only pro for the Tado is it's battery powered as opposed to the NEST being mains powered.

I currently don't have a stat, but a timer on the boiler which has packed in. So I now want a programmable stat to go in the living room. Ideally a one like the Tado or NEST which can be controlled via an APP. Tado would have been ideal, but the price is off putting. Can get the NEST for about £150, but it would annoy me that it needs to be powered by the mains

Impressed with the auto-away functionality. Was out all evening Friday and the heating never came on at all until I turned it on from the train on the way home, nice toasty house on our arrival.

vs Tado I thought about it but the nest is so much prettier! Plus I think the works with Nest stuff could come in handy

Remember to add installation costs if you're not upto putting the thermostat in yourself. I paid £249 for the Nest including installation and I was very glad I did!

Tado would have detected you coming home, known how long it takes to bring your house back up to temperature and done it's thing without you having had to do anything!

Except I imagine it drains your battery something rotten.

Neither of them work with my zoned system at the minute so I'm sat here waiting.
