** NEW GIGABYTE ULTRAFORCE 9xx SERIES LAPTOPS!! **

Thank you very much for the speedy reply! That definitely all sounds good to me!

1) I know this is a very specific question (if I don't try and ask, I'll never know) but is there information on how the cooling system has been upgraded compared to P35W v2? - I don't mean all the really detailed jargon but simply; is there larger fans, more heatpipes, better quality heatsinks or something else along those lines? Again, I know that is a very in-depth question (sorry!).

2) Also, I am planning to upgrade my notebook once I have it in my hands by adding an extra stick of RAM and replacing the HDD with an SSD. Do I void the warranty if I take off the bottom panel in order to upgrade said components (assuming no damage was caused)?

Thanks again.

Hi Cakefish,

1) On the cooling system, no need to apologise, and yes you are correct it will be a combination of all of the elements that contribute to the cooling being improved, increased in size etc.

2) At Gigabyte we aim to make upgrading as simple as we can and the P35 is the best example of this. The ram slots are very easy to access, on the model I use, its 1 screw. There is no warranty void sticker.

HDD and SSD are also very easy to access and upgrade. As you rightly mention the key to not invalidating warranty is not to cause damage. We continue to support the unit with full 2 year warranty (excluding the parts you add/upgrade).

Don't forget though that the P35 chassis has optical bay that is hot-swappable with an additional HDD or SSD - we ship the bracket/enclosure with the laptop (FOC).

Hope that helps,

Regards,

Please can I add my own weight behind Cakefish's question below:

I would like to ask if the improved cooling solution is only on the P35X, or if the P35W v3 also has this improved cooling solution?

Many thanks for your time.

Hi Richduffy,

As part of the V3 refresh all models have received the improvements to both chassis and cooling system.

Thanks for your interest:-)

Atom, Gigabyte are really skimping out by providing only a 128GB SSD. It would cost hardly any extra to put 256GB in some of those machines, and it is 100% certain that anyone buying a laptop with 128GB SSD will have to upgrade it after a short period of time whether they want to or not. Pretty poor really given the price category.

+1.

Both gigabyte and MSI do this and I have no idea why, that or the ridiculous 2x 128gb raid.
I always try to buy the base model without sad and just add my own

Atom80 - I have a couple of questions.

1. Do you chassis changes improve strengthening so no more bending? That was one of the main reasons I have not bought a p35

2. The keyboard is really important to me and appears to be an area you guys lag behind, is this something you will be looking to improve on? I have always bought Alienate/Macs in the past due to the keyboards/screens being better than competitors, but really want a decent thin and light and the gs60 doesn't cut it for me

Thanks for the info. I've now preordered the 1080p model of the P35X v3 :D

1) Out of interest, does the 3K model have a glossy display or matte display? I chose the 1080p model because I prefer matte displays and was under the impression the 3K panel was glossy. Is that correct?
2) Is there a separate blu-ray module available for purchase to fit into the hot-swappable bay?
3) Have any improvements been made to the speakers on the v3 models compared to their predecessors? Just curious.
4) Finally, if I were to purchase an additional 128GB mSATA drive (seeing as there is only one preconfigured in the model I've chosen), would I be able to install it and enable RAID myself on the system BIOS? Which brands of mSATA SSD and the system RAM are used in the P35X v3 model (so that I can source additional compatible parts to install after it is delivered)?

Really appreciate the useful information! Thanks!

Hi Richdog,

We "try" to provide specs that give value to the end user.

Whilst packing the unit with larger SSD might suit some users, we want to provide a cost effective solution, that can be upgraded in the future if required.

I think it is fair to say that our 9 series products are very well priced within the market and I certainly haven't seen any competitor products representing better value for the specification.

Appreciate your feedback.

Hi Ninja 2000,

On your first statement - Gigabyte has, and will continue to offer products without SSD so that you can add your own.

OK, your questions:

1. The P35 chassis has been improved twice in the last 12 months since the first V1 products that did have some reported issues. V2 products, we have had no problems, so I am confident V3 will be the same.

2. Again as above - we have sold a lot of the P35 units, through OcUK and other partners during the last 6 months, and have received no negative feedback on the keyboard performance or build quality. Everyone uses a keyboard differently, I myself use a P35 and am very happy with it. Yes of course if you press most keyboards hard enough they will flex, but as part of the chassis refinements for V3, the keyboard will again have been improved.

Hope that helps,

Regards,

Hi Cakefish,

Excellent, thanks for placing your order :-) Appreciated.

Here are my best attempts at answering all your points:

1) I await confirmation from HQ team but I "think" that all our panels are "anti glare" matte finish, not glossy

2) We have done models with Blu-Ray combo and Blu-ray writer, so yes, but I will enquire as to where these can be purchased.

3) I believe the sound system is the same in V3 as it was in V2, but again I will check.

4) Yes you can and I will check the brands of the parts and post next week.

Sorry if those aren't solid replies, but HQ team are now out of office, so I will come back to you again when I have further clarification.

Thanks again for choosing Gigabyte,

Hi, the P35 chassis is a very interesting chassis, is there any chance of a more budget concious version in the future. Between this and the MSI GS60 are interesting for me, but it would be nice to see an i5 version with perhaps a GTX 850m to get it under the £900 mark. (Keeping an IPS screen though - please don't cut this out!)

What's the difference between P35x and P35w? Just the GPU?

Thanks

Hi Jb7,

Yes the products are the same apart from the GPU.

P35 "X" - top of the range GPU (GTX 880m / GTX980m)
P35 "W" - high end (GTX870m / GTX980m)
P35 "G" - Mid range (GTX860m)

Chassis same on all models.

Hope that helps clarify,

Regards,

I'm also curious about this :) I hate glossy displays.

There will be a version with a standard FHD screen, just arriving after these first launch skus.

By 'just arriving after these first launch skus' you mean mid November?

Also, I wonder what the price will be, as the current difference of just a difference of £200 between the basic and the premium model is hard to justify, like Cakefish already mentioned:

"The higher-tiered device offers these extras versus the cheaper edition: 3K resolution vs 1080p, twice the RAM at 16GB, twice the SSD storage at 2x128GB AND an upgrade to Intel i7-4860HQ vs Intel i7-4710HQ. That's a heck of a spec bump for a mere £200 difference!" -Cakefish

The difference in price between a 128GB SSD and a 256GB SSD is around £30. If you are telling me that this cannot be integrated into the price (even if you raise it a little tocompensate) of a £1300+ laptop as a way of avoiding users having to inevitably upgrade a new machine due to insufficient storage, then I would say that you are not thinking logically. 128GB is not enough for a modern laptop and it is cynical cost-cutting... nothing more, nothing less.

Hello,
I'm not an expert and I hardly am familiar with all those technical aspects, though I'm curious as to how noisy this latest model is - when operated at full power. As far as I know, the previous model's noise created by the fans is nearly unbearable as It reaches even to 60 dB or even more. Have any improvements been made regarding this matter?. Thanks in advance for the the reply .

Wouldn't buy one of these after reading about that poor guy having issues with his Gigabyte laptop then being told it was his fault for updating drivers!

Hi The Lonely,

This is the closest to your request, supplied with no O/S:

We always consider end user feedback when devising skus, as yet we haven't got this chassis under the £900 mark with lower spec graphics. Maybe something for us to consider in 2015.

Thanks,

Hi Rodi87,

All these sort of components are constantly being improved by R&D team. For actual db levels we would need to see review or stats from HQ, which I don't have to hand.

Theses are performance machines, and as with any performance "machine" whether its a car or a laptop it will inevitably a) get hot and b) make some noise when under stress.

I will try and get actual data from HQ and post when I have it.

Thanks,
