NVIDIA’s Tom Peterson explains 4K resolution and how GeForce GTX is the best choice to power 4K gami

So you got Titan cards for 4k but dont have 4k anymore becuase they are the only cards that ran it?

Sadly not, as the G-Sync ROG Swift took my money but I will be grabbing the Philips 4K 40" screen at some point and I can safely run with the details maxed out and at 40", you will need it.

Did you have a point?

The GTX 780 did not exist when the Titan launched and no one was aware that it was going to come after the Titan.

*cough*

Be interesting to see whats actually coming, Titan and the possible Titan LE (which personally I reckon they might rebadge as something like the 780)

As early as Nov 2012 I did say there was atleast 2 SKUs coming on GK110 :P one being a "super high end part" and the other most likely consumer geforce with higher availability.

/end smug

Won't be long till we see 4k 120hz tbh. .

true. up until now the connectivity was the problem. there are control boards that can handle that fine. Display port 1.3 can manage 120hz @4k and 8k resolutions too.

the problem is that IPS pixels cant switch fast enough beyond about 85fp so the rest is wasted hence gaming monitors being TN.

What sort of GPUs will we need to run 4K @ 120Hz!?

I will say though, I did make a mistake, as I was positive that the 780 6GB was a good 6 months ahead of the 8gb 290X, so hands up on that. I stand by the fact that I was talking about the 780 6GB not costing the earth, as iirc, didn't the Sapphire 8GB cost £700+ on release? Not that I care about price personally.

Fair enough, it might be a good idea to read and absorb the conversation and not throw silly reading comments about.:D

Payback will be a **** though.:)

Well you did accuse me of meaning the Titan and I didn't even mention it :D Maybe wise to ask instead of assumption. I am always the first to put my hands up when I get things wrong and wish others would do the same ;)

I don't do payback either, I feel I can rise above that low level crap :p

Well I like a good debate and thought this thread was going well but I didn't feel it needed to get personal like that :(

As for 4K gaming, the Titan has been available for nearly 2 years and in terms of longevity, that is a long time for PC hardware and it is still hitting tops in lots of the bench threads.

Ok seeing as this thread has well and truly gone off track, let me just clarify something, this discussion seems to be about the earliest card with enough VRAM to run 4k (regardless of the idea that no single card can really run 4K as they just don't have the grunt).

The currant leader seems to be the original Titan launched February 2013......correct ?

I will suggest an entry with this little puppy A good 7 months earlier

LOL @ comments... how far we've come in such a short time. :)

I think people were limiting it to official cards, excluding third party ones with extra VRAM, you raise a good point though as that card was running around with 6GB long before the Titan and cheaper too.

7970 tri and quadfire hit pretty high still, the drivers are so good and they scale so well on multiple cards that its not uncommon to catch up with titans.

Yer, we have been too long with 28nm really and as much as I like the 980/970, there just wasn't a big enough gain to make me jump, plus the fact that I will be going 4K again and I would rather have enough VRAM to max games out.

I see you're not an underboss now, Greg?

No Arc, I am so busy doing other things + work + family are not giving me the time to give my full attention to the forums (and it is needed here). I would like to pick it up again when things quiet down a bit but not enough hours in a day scenario at the mo :(

All the mods are great guys and have a tough time and they certainly get a tip of my hat at the job they do :)
