[H]-Alien: Isolation - Video Card Performance Review

I'm sorry? Could you point me to the extra mantle features on my 780 please? Can I use true audio also?

You know exactly what I mean :p

AMD Contact Hardening Shadows

HDAO - AMD's High Definition Ambient Occlusion

AMD GPU-Accelerated Particles

If this was an Nvidia title AMD users wouldn't be able to use these options or if they could the performance hit would be huge.

What's your point caller?

Your point was wrong then, and it's still wrong now.:D

I was a lot closer than Marine though, so that was my point :o Still struggling to work things out I see :p

4 days before the 780 price dropped to under the 290X is a helluva lot closer than a month :D

nvm.

@Ian ,

You are confusing vendor api agnostic with graphic agnostic features-two entirely different entities.:)

I just play games so I want the best I can get out of games, what I don't want is different features or settings and at a cost of lazy developers.

Many games coming soon will be mantle optimised and many games will be total crud console ports requiring 16gb of graphics memory, I won't buy into any crappy port or a game that features optimisations for either brand.

Even if they are sloppy ports they will not require more than 8GB of memory as that is the most the consoles have and a good chunk of that is taken up by the OS, Still poo don't misunderstand me but we're quite a ways of needing 8GB at 1080P, Being the most popular resolution.

There is a couple of resolutions that most gamers will play. Check out the sound beating the 290X gets in SLI. :D

290X mins are WAY higher?

Anyway, nice to be proven right about GameWorks not being needed.

You can use true audio, when Nvidia offer you the same value for money and licence the Tensilica DSP's which aren't owned by AMD. AMD chose to add some audio DSP's for extra value, it's nothing to do with locking Nvidia out, Nvidia haven't added a feature that literally hundreds of different devices have added, many socs, mobile devices, media devices have licensed and used such DSP's.

Which Mantle features(apart from performance) are missing from games that Nvidia users can't use? Which graphical effects in an AMD game are missing from Nvidia users, the answer is none.

Well if they did that, they wouldn't sell many new GPUs and would harm their own sales.

They've got record sales on cards which are a few % faster right now.

Same thing with Intel, lemmings keep lining up to plonk down cash for latest products, even though they're really no better and even worse in some ways. Both companies would become entrenched to the point that only government could dislodge them. Hell, Intel is already there.

Hate to break this to you, but the cheapest 780 at £450 vs 290x at £430 on launch was NOT " the 780 was cheaper than the 290X by a long way when the 290X was launched"!

I bought my unlocked 290 to 290x a month later, when the 780 was still averaged around £420+ similar to the 290x prices. I waited and hoped for the 780 Classy to drop to £430 around that time, but it didn't happen and kept on jumping up and down between £470-£499 range.

AFAIK AMD users can render PCSS, HBAO+ (not a great fan of) and other nvidia ambient occlusion systems, nVidia's various particle and physics solvers as implemented in flex and so on that are part of GameWorks fine and unlike these implementations anyone can pick them up and plug them straight into their game without having to work with AMD/nVidia.

Not sure in what thread but an amd rep said that using mantle on some games you could dial the settings up to 11, i will have some of that please?
