But this has been an especially bad year for Ubisoft, and it’s only gotten worse as of yesterday. Whereas EA is usually cast as a corporate industry villain, Ubisoft isn’t normally quite as persecuted. Before this, their most memorable controversies involved overly-intrusive DRM, but now? They’re being painted as the face of everything wrong with modern gaming, from deceptive marketing to recycled concepts to crass monetization.

What is going on with Ubisoft? :( What are your thoughts on this company?

I don't think anything unusual is going on at the company per se, I think they're just behaving like a company run by CEOs and senior staff who are more in touch with their shareholders and profit margins than they are their customers.

They've grown too large and as such the company can only run like a corporation, and thusly have suffered the same fate that most large companies do. Internal inefficiencies, pressures and cuts and differing drives. i.e Cost Vs creativity, or quality vs time to deliver.

The biggest problem with Ubi however is arrogance, they've alienated a large portion of the gaming community with their flippant comments, insulting approach to releases, and overall quality. I can't see them making their way back from it, seems like it's all too far gone and they're sitting there with their fingers in their ears adament that this is how it's supposed to be.

I was delighted to see their shareprice plummet yesterday afternoon, and more so the slew of negative reviews on Steam and the plethora of angry forum posts. It's sad to see so many people getting ripped off, but it's a necessary to have people's milke soured before something will change. Will it? Who knows? But I bet the man at the top is getting a royal roasting from the shareholders next AGM which means he won't be around for much longer.

TBH mate I no longer care. They still have not fixed AC4 broken PhysX on PC I gave up on Ubisoft when their last patch broke that & removed the ability to use Ultra widescreen 21:9 aspect ratios on AC4 without using a cracked exe.

Now it looks like they are launching early access games on all platforms but failing to tell anyone they bought an early access title for full price

I hated the last Splinter Cell game due to no Michael Ironside. I hated Far Cry3. They have no gaming IPs apart from Splinter Cell I care about anymore so they are not getting any money from me again unless ironside is brought back for another Splinter Cell (unlikely as the last game sold poorly). Recent Assassins Creed, Far Cry series do nothing for me they are all the same gameplay wise. AC4 had some promise but Ubisoft decided to stop support & make another game in the series :(

Sooner or later the console gamers keeping Ubisoft afloat (lets face it PC gamers are all pirates according to Ubisoft  so we are not important to them are we!) will see Ubisoft cannot be trusted anymore they are too big to fail until gamers stop buying their faulty products the business model will continue their just launched live bug blog is a new low for the gaming industry  if that gets copied by other publishers it will cause a lot of mistrust in the industry which is already being destroyed by DLC & microtransactions!

Money.

As little effort, make as much money.

It will still sell a bucket load and will continue to do so for many sequels.

Their games are crap now anyway(or rather, stale might be a better word, the games are not crap but the gameplay in them is). They are basically all the same....Climb a tower to reveal things, the same stealth indicator, same map on most games(AC, WD and Far cry 3 for example), same forced-fail states in every ****ing game. I remember playing through Black Flag and it was so obvious they were totally out of ideas in terms of gameplay, and don't get me started on the story!

It is a shame, as Ubisoft games always feature amazing worlds to explore that are incredibly detailed, they unfortunately fill them with really poor gameplay and nonsensical stories.

And all of this is without even mentioning their terrible practices!

Couldn't agree more with Pighardia. From my point of view, they had lost the plot since AC3 for the franchise. Black Flag was nice and all, but it was a rubbish AC game and the single player was nothing but an eavesdrop simulator as 90% of landbased missions were just that. FarCry 3 just a cut & paste affair from AC3 and this startled me a lot as I had just completed AC3 days beforehand.

Ubi really are the new EA by shoving those transactions, dare I say 'microtransactions' into the game. The great thing is that Monolith beat Ubisoft at their own game with Shadow of Boredor, which had virtually none of these issues at all, with superb gameplay.

I absolutely love the AC franchise and have great memories of the game before AC3/4 came along and I still find it hard to believe that the same company that produced Watchdags and Unity actually made those older titles too.

Has anything changed?
Ubisoft have been an utter disgrace for absolute years, they despise the people who buy their games. It doesn't make any difference, everyone will carry on pre-ordering. The money will keep pouring in.

I really liked the first 2 Assassins Creed games, but gave up afterwards. Might pick them up used, as long as Ubi don't get the money. :D

It'd be nice to see them go under.

Just reading through that Forbes article again, I think this sums it up succinctly and needs to printed out and posted up in public areas at Ubi.

Consumers want:
A) A product that looks like what was advertised
B) Not to be talked down to in PR speak
C) A working product at launch

D) To be respected for shelling out $60 for a new game, and not goaded into paying even more

Steam is just another drm so i don't see the problem with uplay, they are both the same thing. Maybe it was the fat bloke at valve who started all this drm rubbish?. Microtransactions don't bother me as long as it does not stop progress in single player campaigns. At least it is not another black flag day, lol.

How long have you worked at Ubi?

Not a fan of Uplay Client so try to avoid it.

Played Blacklist and Far Cry 3 last and enjoyed them. Too tired of the Assassins Creed formula now to bother with them

Was interested in Far Cry 4, but will wait and see after the Unity farce

LOL! So you're pretty much anti-consumer? Have you tried up lay? It's woeful and shows no sign of getting better.
