Ubisoft - Thread

This could eclipse the whole Watchdags debacle earlier in the year if it keeps up. The glitch videos just keep on coming!

That review is brilliant, I hope it gets a wide audience.

Seems Ubi have done it again, same old crap. Truly hateful company.

It is already far more serious than that imo. Even with the Watch Dogs downgrading you had people on here defending Ubi and even blaming the consumers!(there was one poster in the WD thread, I forget who, that was trying to act like it was completely normal, and we should accept and even expect it!). Nobody is defending them now.

Not according to console gamers, just look at them lapping it up for Farcry 4. I can see why they hate PC gamers :(

The new EA? Yup that's probably right!! And a hell of an insult :D

I can imagine nVidia aren't very pleased with all of this, having tied themselves quite closely to them...

I can't imajine they care to much ... They would have sorted something after that **** heap that was watchdogs. Jesus if even nvidia can't or won't force their hand on optimizations or wade in on the whole 60fps fiasco to actually put it to rest ,(as they sell hardware to the section of the gaming industry that actually knows better) then I don't see them stopping now

I absooutely hate ubisoft, their games are lessening in quality, they are lazy, all of their ports have had problems on my rig, this is truly annoying! i dont even WANT the free game on my 970 at this rate LOL

i actually think like other companies they just dont listen and do as they want. i can see them going bankrupt or big issues for them in the very near future if they dont adjust how they are.

many gamers feel the same about ubisoft.

So the dev makes a game on an AMD API, which is designed to make cross platform development easier.

Mess it up like they mess up every game they make.

Then blame AMD.

lul.

I just feel sorry for the many decent hard working people who will likely lose their jobs if Ubi's share prices continue to fall.

Whilst I cannot stand Ubi as an outfit, I cannot not project my distaste onto everyone that works there because a lot of people take any job they can in todays market. It is such a shame for those guys.

I have said for a long time the only way these companies will learn is by hitting them where it hurts. Just stop buying their rubbish. When the next title is released, stick to your guns!

Assassin’s Creed Unity is a awesome game. While I/m not a huge ubi fan I'm glad to see Unity more like AC3 then black flag. I for one hated those sail ship battles. I'm near the end of the game and enjoying every min.

I loved the AC series up until Brotherhood, when it got ridiculous.
The storyline always ended on a cliffhanger with an intriguing storyline tied in with the 'Apple of Eden' and the templar/assassin history.

But, it lost all that with it's continuation of the storyline, they should have ended it around brotherhood/revelations will a finale and actual end to what they're trying to do.

But saying that, I started Revelations and it just didn't interest me, Desmond being trapped in the animus with some dude that's been stuck there for a lifetime or whatever.

I just want a decent ending, but they'll just keep making them.
Revelations, 3, black flag and unity will all be missed.

Ubisoft lost my vote after destroying the Silent Hunter Series, we are all intelligent games players who see past nice graphics and actually want some depth in our simulations or video games - oh and also a game you don't need to Mod (or hack .ini files) the **** out of it, for it to work correctly.

I never buy a game on release day anymore (i used to take a days holiday from work for the latest Elder Scrolls release) because it's becoming far to prevalent for a game to be released unfinished.

What Ubisoft game is Mantle?

Also, how on Earth does Mantle make cross platform development easier.

Because mantle has been incorporated into every AMD GPU sold in the last year, maybe 2. It is also a feature present/available on the new-gen consoles. The point being it is a common API that AMD are hoping will overtake Direct X/3D as the norm, and it has compatibility with Nvidia cards. Furthermore it is open source and available to all. It is also supposedly easy to use, so there is efficiency to consider.

Considering new-gen consoles use AMD hardware that support Mantle, using Mantle makes sense for devs engaged in cross platform development and will certainly help to unlock performance in PC GPU's such as restricted draw calls (compared to consoles).

I have read they are planning tech that will allow 100,000+ draw calls on PC, which will be a phenomenal achievement.

Well I have never pirated a game and have over 160 titles on steam, at least 10 on origin and about 10 on Uplay but after trying to play Splinter Cell Blacklist and not being able to get past the first cutscene without it crashing I did the dirty for the first time with Far Cry 4. Blacklist is still unplayable even after I redownloaded it and I also had an issue with Watch_Dogs crashing which meant I had to redownload that because validating files didn't fix it, Ubisoft have made me lose all faith in them and will not be buying games from them soon.

Large AAA companies have only their profits to consider, and these will be maximized to the breaking point of their customers. That's only natural; it's the economic society we live in. Large companies are ONLY in it for the money.

If you’re looking for games enthusiasm, idealism, and customer support look at the indie scene. Indie games are mostly graphically inferior but infinitely more imaginative and playable. This is a generalization with which I’m quite happy.

At the same time, this means that the larger any development costs are, the sooner products must be pushed out of the door to still make a profit, and this inevitably means buggy products. Inevitably!

This means that as long as we don’t change our purchasing practices 1) we must learn to accept extremely buggy first-day releases and 2) mainly costly franchises (sequels to previously successful series) will be borked. Inevitably!

As long as companies can get away with it, this will continue, so we'll all have to live with it.

But my main point is the astounding stupidity of customers, whose actions allow this to continue. They will still keep on buying and buying, regardless, and the companies not only know this, they rely on it.

This customer behavior is absolutely beyond my understanding.

Customers are abused, lied to, insulted and left stranded with inadequate support. Reboot your machine and make sure all current drivers are installed. Yes, thank you very much.

And still they buy.

Just a few hours after release, and mostly even before that, reviews and opinions of those, who are stupid enough to have been the first to fall over their own two feet in the first day, first hour, first minute purchase frenzy, surface all over the place. Amazon reviews, small game review sites, and in a myriad other places. Within the first two hours there is no excuse for anybody not to know that a game release is sub-par.

I’m not talking about the commercial review franchises who rely on advertising revenue and other perks of the job to produce … um… slightly skewed opinions, let’s say, I’m talking about the actual customers who have unsurprisingly enough discovered that they’ve been burnt.

And still they buy.

Help me here. Is it the rush of the instant purchase, do be one of the very first to have the product within their grasp? Is it the hope that future patches will make a game playable and, hopefully, enjoyable?

Could be, could be, I don't know.

But, what gets me most of all is that despite all these information tools at their disposal, people still fall into the trap and then WHINE AND COMPLAIN ENDLESSLY. You have no idea how much you people get on my nerves.

Do you realize that if you’d have just waited 120 minutes, you’d have been alright?

If you're that stupid, then live with it! These people should keep very quiet, be very embarrassed, and hope that nobody finds out how stupid they actually are.

And customers who shell out good money on pre-purchase must be completely insane, above and beyond just plain stupid.

Of course, now and again a franchise will not be a disappointment. It’s a psychological necessity so that the next buggy release will find its customers who rush in, and we all know who rushes in, don’t we? Bit of a costly lottery though, isn't it?

Just my opinion.

I agree apart from, I do pre order certain games but most are indie or smaller company's with games like Prison Architect,RimWorld and Xenonauts, but I did get Sid Meier's Civilization Beyond Earth on pre order.

But if I pre order and aren't happy then it is my own fault, but I am happy with Prison Architect,RimWorld and Xenonauts as I wanted to show my support for the smaller company as Prison Architect,RimWorld looked interesting and as I love the older x-com I thought I would support Xenonauts and I am glad I did.

Sorry, I was unclear. I was talking about pre-ordering AAA titles. Indie developers deserve all the support they can get, and as far as I could tell in the past, provide good coverage on the progress and playability of their games.
All my criticism was aimed entirely at AAA companies.
I myself pre-purchase indie titles, and I've never been disappointed.
But even then I must qualify that this only applies to middle to small budget indie projects. For instance I'm looking at you, Mr. single-player Braben.
