The thing about big Maxwell is even if AMD have not got a working example I think their scientists are more than capable of pulling a few GTX 970 and 980s apart to work out what the architecture is capable of when scaled up. This gives them the advantage of knowing where to target their next range of products including a likely Maxwell Ti beater. The down side is it is going to take some time.
They still have to do this inside of GCN. AMD are very capable but can they produce something better than Nvidia's next top end and still be cheaper. It's a big ask but i would not be shocked if they can but still i think it's very unlikely.
Greg in making up rubbish shocker! I spent the day at a pigeon fancier's convention and every single person I talked with, over 100, preferred AMD for modelling flight patterns. All the people who had problems it was coz of Nvidya.

I have a lot of confidence in AMD coming up with the goods.
It is also important for everyone even if they are 100% NVidia biased to wish AMD well in this as the alternative is too horrible to think about - endless card releases on 28nm.
What reason would I have to make stuff up like that? It was genuine and I enjoyed chatting with so many of the youngsters and helping them out. Sorry if their answers were not what you wanted to hear but sadly you are going to have to deal with it.
This place gets worse and worse for the childish posts.

I can't see it Kaap. AMD make really good products with the added benefit of being cheaper yet still can't compete with Nvidia. They need to do something radical if possible.

I can't see it either - for whatever reason nVidia sells even when they shouldn't - even with everything going for them AMD were inching back share. They are also going to have to put their best into it to compete with nVidia's upcoming GPUs unless there are issues with the production side holding nVidia back.
That's rubbish ^^
When AMD put out a good product VS the competition it sells well, when Nvidia put out a good product VS the competition it sells well.
Take your tin foil hats off !!
Yep you can't polish a turd, if the 970s were as bad/useless as some try to make out they wouldn't of had the best launch sales since records began at OCUK.

The gtx970 is not a turd though but it's certainly not a great in the grand scheme of things. I personally think the gtx970/gtx980 is a very nice card on the engineering side of things.

, especially for those on older cards. The 970 is the best bang for buck card, with new feature set, DSR, DX12, etc in a while. Exactly, especially for those on older cards. The 970 is the best bang for buck card, with new feature set, DSR, DX12, etc in a while.
It deserved to sell well and it has.
Some people need to take their tin foil hats off. When AMD launch new cards as long as they are good they will sell well. There is no conspiracy here, the CPU market is a good example of where their CPU products are lacking and not selling well VS Intel, however APU's are quite good and selling well.
Good products sell, it's that simple. Good products with good advertising sell even better. AMD need to deliver on both counts and then reap the rewards. Hopefully next GPU launch is strong.
"Good products sell, it's that simple. Good products with good advertising sell even better"
It isn't quite as simple as that....
You just need to look at the phone market to see this, the main brands being HTC, Samsung and Apple.
Brand power and marketing is everything, there is a reason that certain companies put millions, if not billions into the marketing department.
Ask anyone who works in marketing.
EDIT: Heck even etailers like ocuk are now recognising just how important brand power and marketing is.
For the record, I think the 970 is a fantastic card and was going to buy one due to the issue with my 290, however, it is overrated in my eyes.
It certainly isn't the best bang per buck either unless you feel that spending an extra £80+ over the 290 (taking into account when you sell the games you get with both nvidia and AMD on) is really worth it......
