Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [21st - 25th November 2014]

ok so we are having 3 men to do the job of 2? No wonder we are ****ed. We cant accomodate Gerrard in the team without Suarez, he is a non entity on the defensive side of things and as an attacking force he is spent.

Yes because no 2 midfielders we have can do that job. Henderson and Allen are only useful in a 3 man midfield - they're not good enough defensively or offensively to justify being picked in a 2. Which is why despite being spent and playing in a deeper role, Gerrard still plays and completes more key passes than either Henderson and Allen. Think about that.

Edit: Why cant Lucas do it in your opinion, he is more mobile than Gerrard, he reads the game from a defensive aspect better, he passing is more progressive. And he has better leadership quailities to his game, especially when it seems a certain player is having one of his renowned hissyfits

Because he's not more mobile, his passing isn't as progressive and he doesn't have better leadership qualities. I hate to say it but Lucas is finished, the injuries have ruined him. He can't get about the pitch anymore meaning he's not as good defensively and he never was good enough to dominate a match with his passing alone.

Allen is **** and Henderen has more goals and more assists than Gerrard this season, think about that.

Except he isnt, the few chances he has had this season have shown he is far from finished - Lucas being done is ******** spread by the Gerrard apologists. Stick him in the team in place of Gerrard and we will magically start to concede less (our attacking play would probably improve aswell).

Henderson has less goals than Gerrard and assists stats are somewhat misleading, especially when we're talking about such small numbers. Statto's will tell you that key passes are a much better indicator as they simply look at whether the pass leads to an attack rather than if the attack is finished off, which is out of the control of the passer :)

Right. I think discussing Gerrard with you is pointless because even when he played a key role in us going on a run that nearly won us the League you still moaned like a **** about him.

And if you're talking about the Real away game as Lucas showing he's not finshed, I'd point out that one of the few chances Real had to score that day came because of Lucas dwelling on the ball in midfield. Like it or not he's finished. In a slow paced game where he's got time he'll do ok, he can't handle high tempo games any more.

Have to agree about Lucas unfortunately. Been one of my favourite Liverpool players over the years purely for the dedication and passion he showed during a very turbulent first few years when he joined us. Pre injury he was up there with the very best in Europe for a year or two but two massive injuries have left him unable to do the one of the basic jobs of a DM which is closing down opponents quickly.

As for Gerrard, stick him in a team with pace and movement upfront and he'll excel in the quarterback role. Take that pace away from him and we have what we're left with this season, an aging player that can't utilise his best weapon and doesn't have the mobility or positioning to perform the defensive duties being asked of him.

Two players, two completely different scenarios but the same outcome. Both need to be urgently replaced with quality.

Have you seen him play any high tempo games? Have you seen him play any league games. No is the answer, so how exactly can you judge.? I know he wouldnt be dominated by Stuart ****ing Downing though, I know that.

Anyway, another astonishing fact from todays game

Should get Palacios.

He dragged us kicking and screaming into the CL by actually tackling in midfield.

Then his bro was kidnapped and killed and he went a bit pants. Maybe a big move is just what he needs.

he did have a great first season and had an incredible engine. shame the way things went for him.

he was recommended to bruce by wenger from memory.

Sigh, and now all the papers start to chuck around names that we're "linked with" to replace Rodgers! Metro reporting Jurgen Klopp, I'll wait to see the rest of the names in the morning.

wengers doing a far worse job then Brandon Rogers.

Arsenal are in a much dire state then liverpool

I think I've been calling it for about 5 seasons now. I really wanted to be proven wrong but the longer he stays the more the early Wenger-era title wins will be forgotten. Absolutely shocking result today, and just to think , we've got Dortmund this week
