Breaking News: Hostages taken in Sydney

Police said its over

Now we just need to know

A) If everyone was ok, and minor non-threatening injuries only (hopefully)

B) What has happened to this guy

Not really too sure why they'd use incindiary or explosives in a hostage situation. I just hope nones badly injured physically.

Those were flash bangs. If not that was a hell of a lot of bullets for one bloke.

Yeah, the police clearly threw in incendiary grenades and not stun grenades...

Some people ey?

incendires would have been the terrorist. and the police use explosive breaching charges.

think it was reported earlier he had a shotgun.

I heard a shotgun too

If it was a shotgun, I could only imagine if it was discharged up close it would have been quite difficult to sustain only non life threatening injuries

2 man breach team, seems oddly planned.

Maybe they have different techniques than us but the team throwing in the thunderflashes would surely been blinding the first 2 men in.

Hope the collateral damage isn't too high, sadly in these situations there would be some, even the best teams in the world account for it.

There were more than 2. One of the news feed showed two going in one door and another showed multiples going in another door with yet more who kept tossing flash bang grenades in.

Depends what the shotgun cartridges were loaded with.

Clay pigeon loads feature very small shot which can be stopped by fairly light clothing at same room ranges.

It will be interesting to find out the sequence of events leading up to the exchange of gunfire. What caused/allowed those 5 hostages to make a run for it? Was it a planned assault or did the gunman do something to cause the police to go in?

Half of the volume of "gunfire" was some kind of "firecracker" style stun grenades. Still quite a bit of shooting as well as concussion effects.

That makes more sense, sorry was only going off the video posted.

I wouldnt say clay pigeon loads would be stopped by light clothing?!?!

I used to shoot clays, and decoy pigeons, trust me shooting lighter clay rounds would not be stopped by clothing. Maybe they wouldnt do as much damage, but it would most certainly kill you especially if you were hit in the vital parts, its just that heavier game rounds would do more damage

Apparantly they can wear tinted glasses that protect from flashbang effects(ear defenders as well I'd assume).

Thing is when one threw a grenade in that video it was followed by multiple flashes/bangs. Are there flashbangs that explode more than once?.

I sincerely hope no one was killed :(.
