*** Official Kodi (née XBMC) Thread ***

Still running Gotham official with no issues. I found a really nice Confluence modified version which kept the simplicity UI but allowed dynamic custom wallpaper backgrounds and support for scrapers, etc.

Not sure if talk about addons is allowed?

If so, What would you say are your top 5 go to addons at the moment?

Genesis seems to be the most reliable but not sure of any other decent ones in the uk. I feel like I am missing something with Navi-X. Maybe I need to set it up correctly but it seems to crash or not find much.

I recommend Flirc usb dongle and blagging a replacement Virgin media remote. works really well together and you can easily modify a txt document to support entering letters like you used to with Nokia phones, or to launch specific controls / windows.

I bought a Nuc Celeron 2830 and am running Open Elec off a USB stick.
It's perfect.

It cost:
£118 for the NUC
£33 for the Ram and also a 16gb USB 3 drive
£151

Plays all my uncompressed Blu Rays with absolutely no issues.
Tomorrow I'll screw it to the back of my TV using the VESA plate that's included.

If I ever need to buy stuff in the future I'd definitely go for an NUC. While the price is a bit higher the flawless playback is worth the extra

What remote are you using, and how does it handle standby? My old Dell PC is fine, except it doesn't handle standby with the Microsoft Media Centre receiver well so I have to turn it off, meaning manually turning it on :(

I use my phone/tablet as a remote.
If you have an Android phone then get Yatse.

I don't know about Standby but I will try tomorrow for you

I use a combo of a harmony remote and Yatse. Its just the standby thing that bugs me. I want to be able to power on from standby or hibernate with the remote.

I've started having issues with my media freezing and crashing my Intel NUC running OpenELEC!

First this I did was update to OpenELEC 5.0 but to no avail - anyone else had this issue or have any idea how to fix it?

The only fix I have is to use kodibunto I haven't had 1 single freeze since installing it.

Thanks for the reply - I've had a read through and there does seem to be some connection between the newer OpenELEC builds and this freezing issue on some (but not all) hardware setups!

Anyway, I had a look at KodiBuntu but there are a few issues for me as follows:

- My CEC adapter doesn't appear to work anymore!?! (it shows up as being connected but doesn't "work")
- I can't seem to find the KodiBuntu "settings"!?!? - in OpenELEC it was right there in the "Programs" menu (I need it to assign a static IP etc)
- For some bizarre reason my TV occasionally resets back to a different HDMI port when I'm doing something within Kodi!!

Anyway I thought I'd go back to an earlier build of Kodi/XBMC but even going back to v 4.0.7 (which I know used to work flawlessly!) doesn't fix the problem!?!?!

This is driving me mad!!!!!

OK this is really starting to annoy me now!!!

I've installed KodiBuntu instead of OpenELEC and managed to get the network shares working and the static IP assigned.......and it still freezes playback within 10 minutes of starting!!!

So then I thought it could be the NUC itself so managed to find the motherboard type and upgraded to the latest BIOS.....and it still ******* freezes!?!?!?!

I just can't fathom why it's worked perfectly for over a year and all of a sudden, with no changes at my end, it's not playing back media without freezing!

The only thing I can think of is that my Synology DiskStation has done a few DSM updates recently but that's more of the UI rather than the NAS itself so I can't see why/how that would have affected things!?!?!

Does anyone have any insight into what this could be??

Can you install Kodi on another device (laptop/phone etc) to rule out the NAS as the culprit? You could also copy media over to the NUC to see if local playback is affected.

I saw that OpenELEC 5.0 is now released, so I took the plunge and updated on my Pi. Seemed to work fine, phew! Looks great, feels snappier too!

I have a quick question though. I've started ripping a few Blurays and putting them on my Pi/OE but upon first test they seem to stutter every 10secs or so. I was under the impression the Pi should be able to handle ~20GB uncompressed MKVs from a Bluray? Am I wrong? Playing from local USB drive btw
