Shooting at French Satirical Magazine

French Government and other media organisation donate to keep Charlie Hebdo in alive.

I hope the donations keep coming thick and fast.

If terror strategy is seen to work for silencing the media, what next? Women who don't cover up, Muslims who don't worship enough, other faiths?

The attacks in Paris aren't that different to the attacks you see in Afghanistan and Syria. The minority are trying to overrule the majority by means of violence. And it won't stop at jokes about Mohammed.

Not going to derail the thread but the hostage taker hadn't escalated the situation by killing a hostage, flying special forces in is better than sending in the police and there being civilian casualties, just as there were.

They went in responding to gunfire triggered by hostages kicking a door down to escape. Not sure what the SAS would have done differently in that situation. Who even knows if the regiment was in the country at the time, or deployed overseas? Either way, the guys that went in were trained to do the job properly, they weren't just regular police officers. Training is training. Having a military badge on you doesn't automatically make you some kind of supernatural force.

There can only be one true Islam, can there not? Unless both sides have different aspects of the truth.
The way I see it one is true Islam, following the words of the Koran to the letter, one is siding with materialism. Much the same as the split in Christians and there understanding of the Bible in the West and where ever on the globe.

So I take it you're a jahovas witness or seventh day Adventist or similar, rather than a Catholic or Protestant?

You've hit on the problem with all religion, it's all based on books written by men and subsequently interpreted by men into multiple different languages, with multiple interpretations.

If there is only one true Islam then that means all Christianity is wrong...

Alternatively it's all allagorical stories about how to be a good person and look after each other, with occasional fire pits thrown in to control people. I'm guessing you wouldn't agree with that any more than the two extremist Muslims this thread is about.

New shooting going on...

In the UK at least the military have access to a much larger arsenal of weapons, different tactics etc.

They don't go anywhere as you can't make a person stateless :p

I'd much prefer terrorists rotting away in prison for the rest of their lives than dead or out there in another country.

His post wasn't really concerning terrorists though. It was more like British Muslims protesting for more muslim oriented rules.

It's a bit like locking up trade unionists for wanting more benefits, or any other peaceful protestor for that matter.

There's a massive difference between shouting/marching and taking up arms against the country you live in (and were born in in the case of the two Frenchmen) and killing people. Unfortunately some people don't seem to be able to differentiate.
